Theodosia McKelden, Will, July 7, 1827; October 1, 1827
I, Theodosia McKelden of CC, being sick and weak of body, but of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding;
To son Thomas John Speake, negro Maria, my best bed stead and furniture, my large chest.
To granddaughter Catharine Ann Luckett, negro Mary. Also all my right title claim and interest in the lot of land which I now reside. Also ½ dozen silver tea spoons.
To James Dutton Carpenter, my walnut candlestand, diaper table cloth, brass candlesticks and my small wine glass.
To son Hezekiah Speake, all my stock of cattle and hogs and the residue of my household stuff.

James Gates Will and Codicil,
I, James Gates of CC, being sick and weak but of sound and disposing mind and memory;
To my daughter Chloe my bay horse, and saddle and bridle that was her mothers.
I give the residue of my estate to my children; James, Leonard, Anne Athey, Elizabeth Nalley, Henney Ash, Chloe Gates and Mary Gates.

Whereas my daughter Elizabeth Nalley and her husband both died since the making of my last will and have left three orphan children without any friends to take care of them and whereas my two daughters Chloe and Mary Gates will by the terms of my will afsd be left destitute of provisions and other necessaries to support them in housekeeping and taking care of the said children, descendants of Shaderick and Elizabeth Nalley. I direct the executor to furnish out of my present stock of provisions, household and kitchen furniture so much and such part as may think necessary until Christmas next and thense forward out of my hogs, indian corn etc, for one full year.
October 7, 1791; Witnesses Joseph Marbury, and Theodosia Wade made oath that they saw the testator sign and seal this will; and Joseph Marbury and Benedict Sanders made oath that they say testator sign and seal the Codicil.

Speak Henerietta, his wife .. his wife & Mary Speak, widow, at or before the ensealing .. in hand paid or secured to be paid by the sd John , and for divers other good causes, grant to sd John Jenkins, a tract of land called Stones Rest, lying in the afd County, bounded by the main fresh run that leads into Nanjamoy Cr, a tract of land in possession of John Jenkins, the north side of the main road that leads from Stones Mill to Portobacco, containing thirty three acres more or less. .. Verlinder, his wife, Richard Speak Heneritta, his wife, Hezekiah Speek, and Theodotia, his wife, Mary Speake, widow, shall faithfully discharge the same & keep him, the sd John Jenkins, absolutely indemnified therefrom, and that they, sd John Meeke and Verlinder, his wife, Richard Speek & Heneritta, his wife, Hezekiah Speake & Theodotia, his wife, Mary Speek, widow, from them and from all other persons, the same above bargained land and premises, unto sd John Jenkins, shall and will warrant and forever gefend by these presents. Charles County Land Record Book O#3, 1765-1770; Page 279, Oct 12, 1767 from John Booker Meeke of CC, planter, and Verlinda, his wife, Richard Speake of CC and Heneritta, his wife, Hezekiah Speake of CC, planter, and Theodosia, his wife, and Mary Speake of CC, widow, to George Tubman of CC, planter, for 217 pistoles, a tract of land in CC, originally granted to Thomas Plunkett for 87 acres called the Chance, bounded by the main Fresh of Mattawoman [Cr] on the north side thereof and on the west side of a Jockeys Run, thence to Clarks Inheritance. Also, another tract of land in CC called Plunketts Gift, bounded by sd Chance, Mattawoman Run, containing about 130 acres. Benjamin Benson, Will, February 15, 1808; March 9, 1808
I, Benjamin Benson of CC, being weak of body but of perfect sound and disposing mind and memory;
To son William Compton Benson, all the lands of which I may die possessed of, reserving to my daughter Susanna Jane Benson, the use and occupation of one room in my dwelling house, part of the kitchen for and during her single life. Also the following negroes; Eli, Milly, Lewis, Frank, Betty, Wat and Isaac, 3 feather beds and furniture, 9 chairs, 1 small looking glass wood frame, 2 dining tables, 1 ironing tables, and 2 guns.
To daughter Susanna Jane Benson, the following negroes; Charles, Sam, John, Harry, Grandison, Mortimer, Harriot, Ann, Sarah, Philis and Moll, 1 set of china, 1 dressing table, 1 cupboard, ½ dozen silver tea spoons, 2 silver table spoons, 3 feather beds & furniture with the use and occupation of one room in my dwelling house, part of the kitchen and garden with a sufficiency of firewood. Also all the money due me on bonds and notes.
To Mary Speake, daughter of Hezekiah and Theodosia Speake, 1 small feather bed and furniture, and 20 pounds.

1819 Hezekiah Speake from Theodosia Speake. Liber I.B. #13, p.291. 30 Aug 1819 / 7 Dec 1819. Theodosia Speake to Hezekiah Speake all of CC for 5 shillings current money all her undivided third part of the estate of her late husband, Hezekiah Speake, both real and personal and mixed property which she is or may in any way be entitled to from said estate. To have and to hold in trust for the use of the said Theodosia Speake and William M. Kilden during their natural lives. After their decease to be divided between the said Theodosia's children: Elizabeth Moss, Hezekiah Speake, Mary Jane Speake and Thomas John Speake and her 2 grandchildren: Ignatius Luckett and Kitty Ann Luckett, children of her deceased dau, Catherine Luckett. Wit: Francis R. Speake and Francis E. Dunnington. Theodosia signed with an X.
Will of Theodosia McKelden, Liber WDM, p.248. Dated 7 Jul 1827 / Proved 1 Oct 1827. To my son Thomas John Speake my Negro woman Maria.
