      KNOW ALL MEN by these presents that we JOSEPH POLLARD, JOHN WARE & EDMOND PENDLETON are held and firmly bound unto THOMAS WARING, BENJAMIN WINSLOW, JOHN ROWZEE & SAMUEL HIPKINS, Gent., Justices of the peace for the County of Essex in ye sum of One thousand pounds Sterling to ye which payment well and truly to be made we bind ourselves our heirs firmly by these presents; Witness our hands and seals this 17th day of January Anno Dom:1748
      The Condition of the above obligation is such that if ye above bound JOSEPH POLLARD, Guardian of JOHN and ELIZABETH REEVES, Orphans of HENRY REEVES deceased, do well & truly pay unto ye sd. Orphans all such Estate or Estates as hereafter shall come to the hands of the said JOSEPH as soon as they shall attain to lawfull age or when thereto required by the said Justices for the County of Essex as also to save and keep harmless the said Justices from all trouble and damage that shall or may arise about the said
      Then this obligation to be void and of one effect, otherwise to be & remain in full force

Samuel Rice in consideration of love he beareth unto Elizabeth .. grants unto Joseph Pollard .. several slaves and effects following upon trust and for use of Samuel and Elizabeth Rice during their joint lives and life of longest liver
      and after decease of Samuel and Elizabeth being given unto such children as Elizabeth shall direct, either before her death or after. In case Samuel shall survive .. it is the intent that Elizabeth shall have full power by her Last Will and Testament to dispose of the said slaves and furniture amongst her children ..

      Indenture 19 Sept 1767 between SAMUEL RICE and ELIZABETH, his wife, of Orange County, and MICHAEL RICE and JANE, his wife, to JOSEPH POLLARD of same .. Whereas Samuel Rice and Elizabeth by Deed of Trust .. 27th June 1765 .. made over unto Joseph Pollard several Negro Slaves and other things .. among which were Negroe Venus and Mary (the daughter of the sd Venus) .. for use of Samuel and Elizabeth during their lives, and after decease of Samuel, Elizabeth to appoint unto such child as she thinks fit .. by her last will and testament .. This indenture in consideration love toward Jane Rice and Joseph Pollard, the children of Elizabeth .. for five shillings .. granted Negro slaves . . . .
