William Davis Sr's Will.
I, William Davis, tho weak in body, yet am of a sound and perfect understanding and memory. I desire to be buried without pomp.
To my daughter Tabitha Davis - she is to have full use and authority over my dwelling plantation whereon I now dwell, called Burds head, containing 50 acres, during her natural life, with all the appurtenances thereunto belonging. I also give Tabitha all my moveable estate. And after my daughter's death or natural life, Burds head goes to my granddaughter, Mary Rosamon Davis.
To my 5 children (to wit) Leonard Davis, William Davis, Stephen Davis, Sarah Swan, and Martha Hunt - 1 english shilling each.
To my daughter Mary Annconey Davis - 1 feather bed and bolster.
To my granddaughter Mary Rosamon Davis - 1 feather bed furniture, and 1 heifer.
Executor: my son William Davis.

I, William Davies of CC, for 37 £10 shillings, have sold to John Clements and William Jackson of CC, planters, 2 Negro men, to wit, Peter and Peter (alias Wary). If, however, I pay Saml and John Hanson a judgment obtained by them against me (and my securities this day) on Feb 10 next, the above bill of sale to be void. Dec 12, 176[blank last digit] from William Davis Sr of CC, planter, to Stephen Davis of CC, planter, for 4000 lbs of tobacco, part of a tract of land called Lumley, lying in CC, bounded by the dividing line between sd William Davis Sr and Justinian Burch, containing 100 acres. Charles County Land Record Book S#3, 1770-1775; Page 385. Mortgage. I, Ann Davis of CC, widow of Thomas Davis, late of CC, decd, together with William Davis (Davies) of CC, planter, owe John Barnes and Thomas How Ridgate 100 £by our bond of the same date as these presents, consideration for the payment of 50 £on Apr 5, 1774 with legal interest for the same, and 100 £by our other bond to them of this date, conditioned for the payment of one other sum of 50 £by Apr 5, 1775 with legal interest, and also one other 100 £by our other bond conditioned for the payment of one other like sum of 50 £by Apr 5, 1776 with legal interest, and also, one other sum of 130 £by our other bond to them of this date, conditioned for the payment of 64 £12 shillings & 1 penny by Apr 5, 1777 with legal interest. Now know that for the better security for the payment to Barnes and Ridgate, of the several sums afd, and for 5 shillings, I have sold to Barnes and Ridgate, as tenants in common and joint partners in trade, 4 Negro slaves following, to wit, a man named Caesar, about 45 years old, a woman named Sue, about age 30, a girl named Hannah, about age 13, and a boy named Jonathan, about 5 years old. I, William Davies of CC, planter, bind myself to Ann Davies (Davis), widow of Thomas, of CC, in the just sum of 300 £, this Apr 5, 1773. Sd Ann Davies has this day become hound as security in sundry bonds, jointly with the sd William Davies, unto Messrs John Barnes & Thomas Row Ridgate for a debt due from sd William Davies to sd John Barnes and Thomas How Ridgate and for securing sd Ann, sd William has this day agreed to mortgage unto sd Ann, a tract of land in CC called Davies Begrudge, at present in the occupation of Richard Davies, son of Jac, and also 1 Negro 'man named Peter. If sd William Davis executes and acknowledges, 1 month from now, a deed of mortgage of the tract of land and Negro afd unto sd Ann Davies, in case Ann should hereafter, by the security this day entered into to the sd Barnes and Ridgate in behalf of sd William, then the above bond to be void.
