Charles County Land Record Book A#2, 1752-1756; Page (485). Letter of Attorney. We, Andrew Buckhanan, George Buckhanan Jr, James Dunlop Jr, David Dalyell, and James Buckhanan of Catter Jr, all of the City of Glasgow in North Britain, merchants. We, as partners in Company, are concerned in carrying on a joint trade and business at Newport in CC, North Potomack, in Maryland, under the management and directions of Alexander Lothian, merchant in Newport afd, which Company now commonly goes under the name and title of Andrew Buckhanan and Son, James Dunlop and Company. Preventing inconveniences that may arise in the event of the death of the sd Alexander Lothian, our present factor and supracargo, if no other person were authorized to act for us in his place, we hereby appoint, upon Lothian's death, James Buckhanan, now bound in voyage for Maryland, and Andrew Buckhanan, merchant in Maryland, jointly to be our lawful attorneys, for us to recover from all persons in Virginia or Maryland it shall concern, all money, debts, due demands, goods, wares, merchandise, books, deeds, writings, estates, effects, and things whatsoever in possession of the persons afd, which, after Lothian's death, shall come due_ Signed - Andrew Buckhanan, George Buckhanan Jr, James Dunlop Jr, David Dallyell, James Buckhanan.
