=== Contributed by Ralph D. Smith

Andrew Ward and his wife Margaret paid their own transportation to Maryland by July 1662, and were not indentured servants. They lived for a few years in Charles Co. and then moved to St. Mary's Co. where they had acquired land. That is why we find records of them in Charles Co.
up to ca. 1667, and in St. Mary's Co. thereafter. Andrew and Margaret's children were not born until after they had arrived in Maryland. This is known because when they claimed 50 acres each for their own transportation they did not claim additional land for any children coming with them.
Andrew and Margaret's move from Charles to St. Mary's Co. was but a short distance because their new lands were in the far western portion of St. Mary's Co. (Chaptico Hundred.)
Andrew and Margaret apparently had a son Andrew Ward, Jr. (see the ca. Apr. 1677 record below). It is my belief that William Ward (Chapter 13) and Benjamin Ward (Chapter 14) were also sons of Andrew and Margaret. My conclusion was the result of a two-ste·p process: (1) that Andrew was
the father of William, and (2) that William was the brother of Benjamin. That process was required because I have found no specific evidence implying that Benjamin was the son of Andrew.
