      THIS INDENTURE made the tenth day of August in the twelfth year of the reign of our Soveraign Lord George by the Grace of god of Great Britain France & Ireland, Ling, Defender of the faith &c.. Annoque Dmi. one thousand seven hundred twenty & five: Between SNOWDAL HORTON of the Parish of OVERWHARTON in the County of STAFFORD & JOHN ATWOOD of the Parish of Washington in County of Westmoreland, grandsons of WM. SNOWDAL. late of the said Parish of Washington & County of Westmoreland, deced.. of the one part and THOMAS BARNES of the Parish of Washington & County of Westmoreland of the otter part; Witnesseth that SNOWDAL HORTON & JOHN ATWOOD in consideracon of the sum of Five shillings of lawfull money to them in hand paid doe bargain and sell unto THOMAS BARNES all the full quantity of Two hundred acres of land be the same more or less, of which WM; SNOWDAL, Grandfather aforesaid, was lawfully seized in fee, And by his Last Will and Testament made the second day of January in the year one thousand six hundred seventy & four devised the same to his Daughter, ELIZABETH, as by the said Will on the Records of the said County of Westmoreland doth appear. which sd. ELIZABETH dieing without issue and not making any lawful legal disposition of the same land, it is now become the just right & inheritance of SNOWDAL HORTON & JNO: ATWOOD. the land scituate in the Parish of Washington & County of Westmoreland & containing by estimation the quantity of two hundred acres, he the same more or less, and is now in the possession tenure and occupation of JOHN CHILTON. Gent., who claimes & holds part thereof in right of the Orphans of Mr. RICHARD WATTS, deced., and THOMAS TAYLOR, who holds the other part thereof in right of the said ELIZABETH, Daughter of the said WM: SNOWDAL, with whom he intermarried, the said land being bounded Easterly with the lands of JAMES BUTLER & AMASS BAGGWELL, Southerly with the land of the said JOHN CHILTON, lately purchased of said THOMAS BARNES Westerly in the Land of ANDREW HARRISON & Northerly with POTOMACK RIVER. Together with all profits & appurtenances to the same belonging; To have and to hold the two hundred acres of land (be the same more or less) hereby sold and other the premisses with appurtenances unto THOMAS BARNES & assigns dureing the term of one whole year paying therefore unto SNOWDAL HORTON and JOHN ATWOOD their heirs the rent of one grain of Indian Corn on the Feast of the Nativity of our Lord Christ, if lawfully demanded, to the intent that by vertue of these presents and of the Statute for transferring uses into possession the sd. THOMAS BARNES may be in the actual possession of the premisses and thereby the better enabled without Attornment of Tennant. Livery of Seizin or other ceremony take a release of the inheritance thereof: In Witness whereof the parties first above named to these present Indentures have interchangeably set their hands & affixed their seals the day & year first above written Sealed & deliverd in presence of us

County the 25th day of August 1725 WILLIAM STURMAN by vertue of a Power of Attorney from SNOWDEL HORTON and JOHN ATTWOOD (being duely proved) acknowledged this Lease of Land by them passed to THOMAS BARNES to be their act & deed, which was also proved by the Oaths of the vitt-- nesses thereto, and at the instance of the said BARNES admitted to Record

      KNOW ALL MEN by these presents that we SNOWDAL HORTON of the Parish of OVERWHARTON in County of STAFFORD and JON ATWOOD of Washington Parish in County of Westmoreland are hold & firmly bound unto THOMAS BARNES of tho Parish & County last aforesaid in the sum of three hundred pounds Sterl, money to the true payment whereof we bind ourselves our heirs firmly by these presents: Sealed with our seals & dated this Ninth day of August in the twelfth year of the reign of our Soveraign Lord George by the grace of God King over Great Britain France & Ireland, Defender of the faith &c., Anna Dmi 1725
      THE CONDICON of the above obligacon is such that if the above bound SNOWDAL HORTON & JOHN ATTWOOD their heirs shall well & truely observe and keep all the covenants and agreements which on the part and behalf of them their heirs ought to be observed and kept menconed in Indentures of Bargain and Sale by way of Lease and Release made between SNOWDAL HORTON & JOHN ATTWOOD of one part and THOMAS BARNES of the other part. Also if SARA & JANE. the Wives of the sd. SNOWDAL & JOHN, shall when thereunto required in due form of Law relinquish their right of Dower and Thirds in the land conveyed: Then this obligacon to be void and of none effect otherwise to remain in full force power & vertue
