Who is this fellow Cawood : A history of the Cawood family from Johannes de Cawood (John Cawood), Cawood, Richard Lawrence; 1962
Stephen Cawood landed in southern Maryland in 1666.
According to records found in the Land Office, Annapolis, MD., Stephen Cawood of Charles County, proved right to 50 acres of land for time of service reformed in the province. This record was dated 4 Feb 1670/71. On the same day Thomas Dent of St. Mary's County, sold to Stephen Cawood of Charles Co., 200 acres, pt of a warrant for 1500 acres granted to Dent 9 Jul 1670. Warrant was then issued to Stephen Cawood for 250 acres. Stephen Cawood's warrant for 250 acres was increased by 200 acres on 10 Oct 1674, in a transaction by which Charles Calvert then Governor, issued to Stephen Cawood warrant for 200 acres, returnable 10 Feb 1675. On the same day 10 Oct 1674, Charles Calvert assigned to Stephen Cawood four persons - - Anne Terrett, William Terrett, George Blackborne and Katherine Blackborne, who were under obligation to him. Stephen married Anne Terrett.
Stephen Cawood engage in the war with the Susquahannock Indians about 1675, and was killed in the war some time in 1676, at the age of 46, leaving a wife, Anne Terrett Cawood, and son Stephen. There may have been other children.
Anne Terrett Cawood, did not remain a widow long, for about November 1678 she became the wife of Dr. John Wynne, of Poplar Hill, St. Mary's County, MD., moving to that location.
Stephen Cawood s/o Stephen and Anne oldest surviving son of his father was born probably about 1670.
[smoller: Stephen and Anne didn't meet until 1674, so their son Stephen's birth is after 1674] Stephen s/o Stephen and Anne continued to live in St. Mary's County, with his mother and stepfather until he was of age. But in 1695, he returned to Charles County, to assume possession of his heritage, a plantation of 600 acres, called Hull, which he had inherited from his father.
