- Under this stone is deposited the body of Sarah Dent daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Marshall. She died April 9th 1795 aged 59 years and 6 months.
"Sarah Marshall Daughter to Thomas & Elizath Marshall, was born the seventh day of November, in the Year of our Lord Christ one thousand Seven hundred and Thirty five, 1735, in the forty second Year of the age of the above said Elizth Marshall."
"Sarah Marshall, Daughter of Thomas & Eliz. Marshall, was Married to John Dent on the 27th Day of Feby, Anno Dom. 1752"

Sarah Marshall Dent, Wife of General John Dent of the Revolutionary
War, died April 9, 1795. Tombstone: "This tribute, due to the Memory
of an Excellent Mother and good woman, is made by George Dent."
Daughter, Anne Herbert Dent (born October 30, 1756) was the Mother
of Jane Herbert (Dent) Wilkinson, who married Doctor James Long and
went on to fame as the "Mother of Texas." Son, Thomas Marshall Dent
(born October 22, 1761) was the Maternal Grandfather of Confederate
Lt. General James Longstreet.

Sarah’s husband, John Dent, rose to the rank of general during the American Revolution. Their daughter, Anne Herbert Dent (born October 30, 1756) married Captain William M. Wilkinson of the Revolutionary War. Ann's daughter, Jane Herbert (Dent) Wilkinson, was born July 23, 1798 on Truman's Place plantation near the Patuxent River in Charles County. Jane married Doctor James Long and went on to fame as the "Mother of Texas." Their sons, Thomas Marshall Dent and George Dent, became captains in the Revolutionary War. George served in the Maryland Legislature, becoming Speaker of the House before federal election to Congress for two terms as a supporter of Thomas Jefferson. Thomas Marshall Dent, born October 22 1761, was the maternal grandfather of Confederate Lt. General James Longstreet - General Robert E. Lee's "Old War Horse."

Charles County Land Record Book A#2, 1752-1756; Page (165). We, George Dent and Ann Dent of CC, previously, by deed of gift and writing dated Jan 23, 1750, gave to our son, John Dent, two tracts of land, the one called Clerks Inheritance, the other called Clerks Purchase, said to contain 500 acres, each tract, with the provision, nevertheless, that sd John Dent should not occupy the same until after the death of sd George or Ann. Now know that we, sd George and Ann Dent, for and in consideration of a contract of marriage agreed upon between sd John Dent and Sarah Marshall, daughter of Mr. Thomas Marshall of CC, with the consent of us, sd George and Ann and sd Thomas Marshall, do hereby agree that, on the solemnization of sd marriage, sd John Dent shall have actual possession of the sd two tracts of land afd, as fully as if the above proviso had never been made, saving, nevertheless, during y lives, the exception in sd deed, of such small part of the tract called Clarks Inheritance as is cleared and occupied by Stephen Lomax. If the intended marriage does take place, I hereby grant to sd John Dent several Negroes now under an overseer, viz, Dick, Brecteonie, Bob, Mole, & ould Bess, with the stock of cattle & hogs thereon, and also 1 young Negro man called Wile, now in the possession of sd John Dent.
