Mar 22, 1738 from Thomas Butler of PG, to Ambrose Cook of PG, planter, the lease of part of a tract of land called Josephs Park, lying in Charles County, bounded by a line of the land of Andrew Scott, the dividing lines of Joseph's Park and Hermitage near a marked white oak on the west side of Long Branch, containing about 100 acres. This is a 21 year lease, starting today, and the yearly rent is 600 lbs of good, merchantable tobacco, to be delivered at a landing in good order. Rent is to begin being paid on May 10, 1742. Neither Butler nor Cook will sell or destroy any timber on the premises, nor apply any but to the necessary repairs and use of the dernised premises. Cook agrees that he will not let more hands work or till the demised premises than himself, his wife, and children, and if his children are incapable to work, then only take in one able hand. Cook agrees, within the next 4 years, to plant 150 good apple trees. Sd Cook gives sd Butler a bond of 6 f sterling to warrant the true performance of this lease. May 23, 1739 from Thomas Butler of PG, to Thos Nicholls of PG, planter, the lease of part of a tract of land called Joseph's Park, lying in PG, which is bounded by a parcel of land laid out for Mr. Henry Wattson being the NE comer of the land of John Ramsey, laid out for about 100 acres. To have and to hold during the natural life of sd Thomas Nicholls & during the natural life of Anne Nicholls, wife to the afd Thomas, & during the natural life of Thomas Nicholls, son to the afd Thomas Nicholls, paying on each May 10 (the 1st three years to be excepted) the sum of 600 lbs of good tobacco, to be delivered at a landing in convenient cask. Thomas Nicholls may not sell or destroy timber, and may not apply any but to necessary repairs. Nicholls shall not suffer more hands to work the premises than his wife and children, and if his children cannot work, he may take in one able hand. For each additional servant or slave working or tending a crop of tobacco or otherways, Butler must be paid 100 lbs of merchantable tobacco in the rent cask as afd. Within 4 years, Nicholls will plant 150 apple trees, at least 30 feet apart, and will keep them well maintained and fenced. In the case of nonperformance, Butler is to be paid 6 f sterling, and so prorated during the continuance of this lease. At the end of the lease, Nicholls is to leave the premises in good condition.       Sep 3, 1745 from Thomas Butler of PG, Gent, to James Sayers of PG, Merchant, for 60 £sterling, about 300 acres of land now called Town Side, being part of a tract of land in Page called Hermitage, bounded by the SE corner of William Davis' land whereon he now dwells, then to Richard Condron's land, then to Benj: Perry's land, Cramphin's land. Signed - Thos Butler. Wit - Thos. Chittam, Jams Edmonston*, George Scott*. Elizabeth, the wife of the sd Thomas Butler, relinquished her right of dower to the within mentioned land.       Prince Georges County Widow hath heretofore mortgaged two parcells
      of Land unto Charles Carroll Esq.r the one called Plain Dealing
      Containing Five hundred Acres & lying in Prince Georges County
      the other Containing Two hundred & fifty Acres being Part of a
      Tract of Land called Uncles Good Will & lying in Baltimore County
      as by the said Mortgage recorded in the Provincial Records Lib
      B L L N.o 8 folio 373 may appear Now be it known that I Tho.s
      Butler Son & Heir at Law to the said Joyce Bradford being entitled
      to the Equity of Redemption of the Lands so mortgaged have
      agreed with the said Charles Carroll to release all my right & title
      to the Equity of Redemption of the said Lands or any of them so as
      af.d mortgaged to the said Charles Carroll I Do therefore for me & my
      Heirs in Consideration of Five Shillings to me paid by the said
      Charles Carroll hereby release & for Quit claim of in & to all & every
      the Lands so mortgaged as aforesaid unto him the said Charles Carroll
      his Heirs & Assignes for ever To have & to hold the said Lands & every
      of them with all my right & Title whatsoever of in & to the Lands af.d
