      Capt. John ROGERS was born in 1620 in Eng/VA.1 He was in May 1655 a justice of Co. vestry man of Chicacone parish. He was in 1665 a Sheriff for 1655-56 He died before 21 Jul 1680 in VA. His will was presented for probate, but is no longer of record in Northumberland Co.

      Capt. John Rogers was the first of this family in VA, on 8/4/1655 stated his age was 45. He purchased 250 acres in Northumberland Co. from James Claughton on 1/20 1652/3. On Nov 30, 1656 he repatented the 300 acres he had originally patented in 1654 (Virginia Patents, v 4 Page 39-40.v. 3 p 277). He added another 200 acres on 8/31/1657 (VA Patents v 4, p 204) and on 1/9/1662/3 repatented this land and his 250 acres originally patented in 1654. (ibid., Page 569) On 7/20/1654 John conveyed a calf to each of his children Katherine, Elizabeth and John (Northumberland co. VA, Record Bk. 14, p 47r)

Refers to "a Barke I bought of James Brown of Charles Town in New England my will is that my Land lore of Boston William Merry shall dispose of as thus that what Mr Garland shall make Justly appear to be Due him William Merry to go give satisfaction to my Landlady Crabtree fro a venture of 20 pounds of sugar which I was to be accountable for and for the rest that shall remain of the Barke that shall be in the said William Merry hands I do will it to be distributed to the poor of Gods church in Boston in New England x x x my loving friend Jo Weir to sell my great shallop & to carry home with him of the sale of the sd shallop 2000 lb of tobo the sd tobo to be sold for money & to be equally distributed by the sd Jo Weir to my friends that is to my mother in Law my three aunts and my sister Elizabeth I give to Francis Weir a steer that is at John Rogers at Chickacone I give to Hanner Place for looking to me in my sickness a yearling Heiffer 3 yards of green - - my chest & a - - skin I give unto one honest poor man named Jo Hill living about Kent or Sevurne 1100 lb of tobo due to me by bills from James Dasher of herrins creek x x one bill x x to one Richard Paille I give unto Anthony Fullyham (for unchangable love & kindness past betwixt us) one of those Hhds of tobo that I have at his house I give unto Mrs Taylor in consideration of her charge & endeavor to cure me of my Infirmities one cow that is at Mr Fullyhams." Appoints John Weir Exor. Rrfers to debt ot Mr.Scarborough and to debt owing him by Mrs. Crow. Dated 4th February 1653/4.

      Know all men by these presents that I John Rogers of Northumberland in the Colony of Virginia Gent. for diverse good causes and consideration as me here unto moving and especially for the natural love and affection that I have unto my children do freely and absolutely give unto my daughter Katherine Rogers one cow calf about six' months old. colored red marked a Floure - de-lyse on the left ear and over holed on the right.
      To Elizabeth Rogers one cow calf aged five months old colored brown marked a Floure-de-Lyse upon the left ear and under holed and over holed on the right.
      To John Rogers one cow calf about three months old colored black marked a Floure-de-Lyse upon the right ear and over holed and under holed on the left. To have and to hold the said calves with their future female increase to them the said Katherine, Elizabeth and John Rogers remain truly forever in witness where of I have here
