VIRGINIA GLEANINGS IN ENGLAND; The Virginia Magazine of History and Biography, Page 309; PHILIP LUDWELL late of the Colony of Virginia, but now of the City of Westminster, Esquire. Will 28 February 1767; proved 6 May 1767. All my estate in Virginia not otherwise bequeathed to Richard Corbin Esq., H. M. Receiver General of Virginia, Robert Carter Nicholas Esq., Treasurer of Virginia, John Wayles and Benjamin Waller Esqrs. Attorneys at Law in Virginia, in Trust for my daughters Hannah Phillippa Ludwell, Frances Ludwell, and Lucy Ludwell. All my land in Virginia to be divided into three parts viz: all land in Green Spring part i.e. in James City County on Western side of Powhatan Swamp with everything thereon as Slaves, Stock, Household Furniture etc. in which I include Powhatan Mill and the miller-The Rich Neck part viz: on Eastern side of Powhatan Swamp and at Archer's Hope and in Williamsburg-The Chipokes part viz: all my land in County of Surry. The Green Spring part to daughter Hannah Phillippa Ludwell, the Rich Neck part to daughter Frances Ludwell, The Chipokes part and all Surry estate to daughter Lucy Ludwell, executors to sell all Household Furniture, China, Glass and Books in Virginia, excepting one large Mahogany Escratore with glass doors and one large Mahogany Dressing Table with a looking glass in a mahogany frame, already the property of daughter Hannah Phillippa Ludwell. To said daughter Hannah £1oo to bring over to England and put in a way of getting their living two of my slaves named Jane and Sarah, daughters of Cress, to whom I promised their freedom for the faithful and unwearied care in nursing my dear little Orphans from the death of their mother.
Executors: My daughter Hannah now and Frances and Lucy when they come of age with the four trustees joint executors in Virginia, and Peter Paradise Esq., John Paradise Esq., of the city of Westminster, and William Dampier Esq., Master Apothecary of Saint George's Hospital, Executors in England and guardians to my two daughters Frances and Lucy. If daughters Frances or Lucy go to Virginia during minority or unmarried Executors in Virginia to have power as guardians. To my friend Charles Carol Junr Esq. of Maryland such of my books in my study in Virginia as he shall choose. -to have for his natural Life the interest arising from all testatrix's bonds and pronhissary notes whether taken for tobacco or money
-all tobacco due testatrix is to be sold and the money arising therefrom to be given to her father.
-to have Negro man "Carpenter Jack"
2. Mr. Robert Sewall --son of Nicholas Sewall of St. Mary's
-at the decease of testatrix's father to have all the moneys and tobacco outstanding due testatrix
-to have all of testatrix's Negroes both male and female
-after the death of testatrix's father and sister to have Negro man "Carpenter Jack"

Indenture made January 14, 1773; Henry Rozer, Daniel Carroll and Notley Young, Gentleman, trustees of Charles Carroll, Esq. for the purpose of erecting a Town called Carrollsburgh on Potomack River in consideration of 6 pounds sterling money paid by Charles Carroll s/o Charles of Dunnington, deceased has sold "Lot Number 93" which he drew in a lottery.
