      At the request of John Parnham Jr of CC, the following deed of lease and release was recorded this may 17, 1731.
      Jun 15 & 16, 1731 from Henry Wharton of St Mary's County, Gentleman, and Jane, his wife, to John Parnham Jr of CC, merchant, and Jane, his wife, for 5 shillings. A treaty of marriage being lately on foot between as John Parnham and Jane Wharton, daughter of sd Henry Wharton and Jane, his wife. Sd Henry Wharton, in consideration that sd marriage should take effect and be solemnized by articles of agreement dated Nov 8, 1728, agree with sd John Parnham that he, sd Henry Wharton, soon after the solemnization thereof would, by some deed, convey to sd John Parnham and Jane, his wife, as part of the marriage portion of sd Jane, a moiety or half part of a certain tract of land then in the actual possession of sd Henry Wharton lying near Budds Cr in CC, being part of a tract of land called Baltemores Gift, adjoining a tract of land called Sarum. The parcel of land before granted is bounded by a Great Marsh called Piles Marsh, containing and laid out for about 181.5 acres, together with all the marsh lying between sd land and Wicocomoco [Wicomico] River. Sd marriage did take place, and was soon after the expending of the articles had and solemnized. Now this deed witnesses that sd Henry Wharton and Jane, his wife, for and in consideration of sd marriage and of the natural love they have for the sd daughter, and in pursuance of the articles and for 10 shillings and for divers other good causes, they release to sd Jno Parnham and Jane, his wife, all that parcel of land described above, for the use and behoof of sd John Parnham and Jane, his wife, and the heirs of her body lawfully begotten, and in default of such heirs, remainder to Francis Wharton, son of sd Henry Wharton.       At the request of Mr. John Parnham Sr of CC, the following bill of sale was recorded this Jun 17, ,1731.
      Know that a treaty of marriage being lately on'_foot between John Parnham Jr of CC, merchant, and Jane_Wharton, the daughter of Henry Wharton of St Mary's County, pent, sd Henry Wharton did, by articles of agreement dated Nov 8, 1728, covenant with sd John Parnham that in case sd intended marriage should take effect, that sd Henry Wharton would convey to sd John Parnham (as part of the marriage portion which he intended to give his sd daughter), 8 Negroes, namely, Ignatius, Margaret, Monica, John, Jonathan, Little' Bess, Jesse, and Pegg. Sd marriage did take effect. Now know that sd Henry Wharton, for and in consideration of sd marriage and for the natural love he has"for his sd daughter Jane, grants sd John Parnham, the above named Negro slaves, together with their increase.       At the request of Francis Parnham, the following deed was recorded on Jun 28, 1748.
      May 10, 1748 from Jane Parnham of CC, widow, to Francis Parnham of CC, physician. The afd Jane and Francis Parnham are administrators of the goods, chattels, rights, & credits which were of John Parnham, late of CC, merchant, deceased, who died in testator [intestate]. Sd Jane is willing to commit her right to the administration of the deceased's estate to sd Francis Parnham, which he is willing to accept, and sd Jane, widow and relict of sd John Farnham deceased, is agreed to relinquish her right to the third part of the personal estate of the deceased, and her dower in a certain tract of land called Barbadoes, lying in CC, now in the possession & occupation of Edmund Porteus of CC, Gentleman, and her dower in sundry lots and houses in Charles Town in CC and commonly called Portobacco, for the considerations hereinafter mentioned. Now this deed witnesses that Jane Farnham, for one half part of the household furniture and one third part of the cattle, horses, hogs, and sheep of sd John Parnham, her late husband, now in the possession of sd Jane, and for and in consideration of the following slaves and NegrOes, also belonging to her late husband, now also in the possession and service of Jane, to wit, 1 Negro man named Nacy, and 1 Negro woman named Peg, wife to sd Nacy, and 1 other Negro called Sophiah, daughter of Jess and Bess, and 2 others called Sarah and Jess, children of the afd Jess and Bess, Jane Parham covenants to Francis Parham that she will, from henceforth, assign her right in the administration of the deceased's estate to Francis, and that Jane will mot meddle with any part of the goods, chattels, rights, or credits of sd intestate without the consent of Francis. This deed further witnesses that Jane, for the furniture, stock, and Negroes afd, hereby promises Francis that she will relinquish her right of dower to the tract of land called Barbadoes, and to sundry lots and houses in Charles Town, and all her right to the personal estate of John Parnham, her late husband, to Francis. If the deceased's personal estate, after taking out the furniture, stock, & Negroes, is insufficient to pay his debts, then Jane will permit Francis to dispose of the furniture, stock, & Negroes.       At the request of Jane Parnham, the following bond was recorded on Apr 5, 1749.
      I, Francis Parnham of CC, surgeon, bind myself to Jane Parnham in the just sum of 1000 £this May 10, 1748. Jane Parnham has passed a deed to afd Francis Parnham dated today. In consideration of Jane Farnham executing the deed, Francis Parnham obliges himself to keep Jane Parnham indemnified (as far as the Law will admit him to do) from any trouble or cost that may arise by reason of an administration bond, entered into jointly with Francis Parnham, for their due administration on the dead John Farnham's estate, dated Mar 19, 1746[/7]. Francis, when requested, will make over the lands and plantation whereon sd Jane now lives, to sd Jane, during her natural life, reserving to himself the liberty of the Marsh Ground whereon to build a warehouse .. and the liberty of timber to build or repair any boats or other crafts and of the pasture for pasturing horses. Francis Parham agrees to pay Jane Parham 4000 lbs tobacco out of last year's crop. If Francis Parham keeps all the articles mentioned in the afd deed, then this bond is void.       It is agreed between the parties that if Jane Parham thinks proper and will be at half the expense of building the warehouse, then Francis Parham obliges himself to allow Jane the half part of the profits arising from sd warehouses.       Charles County Land Record Book G#3, 1756-1761; Page 69. Lease. May 14, 1757 from Jane Parnham of CC, to Robert Brent of CC, for the yearly rent on the part of Robert Brent, the lease, to sd Robert Brendt, of a tract of land called Ferne, lying in CC, containing 299 acres, together with the appurtenances thereunto belonging, the store house and ordinary and the other houses thereunto belonging excepted. The lease starts today, and is for the natural life of sd Jane Parnham. The yearly rent is of 900 lbs of tobacco and one half of the quitrents of sd land. Brent may get whatever board or rail timber is needed for sd plantation. Brent is to allow Parnham to work 2 Negroes on sd land with his negroes, and to allow her a full share of everything sd Negroes shall make on the land afd.
