Hockley in the Hole (Edward, Joshua & John Dorsey) 8/225/1664 - 400 acres. L7/378
SR7349. Know Yee that Wee for and in consideration that Edward, Joshua, and John Dorsey of this Province, Planters, hath due unto them four hundred acres of land within this Province being the plantation they now liveth upon called Hockley In The Hole lying in Ann Arundall County on the south side of the Severn River in the woods. Upon such considerations and terms as are exprefsed in our Conditions of Plantation of our Province of Maryland, do hereby grant unto the s'd Edward, Joshua, and John Dorsey a parcell of land called Hockley in the Hole lying on the South side of the Severn River in the woods beginning at a marked Red Oak, it being a bound tree of Cornelius and Samuel
Howard. Note 1: The present day Annapolis Water Works is located within the bounds of this parcel. Note 2: Edward Warfield (The Founders of Anne Arundel and Howard Counties, reprinted by Heritage Publishers, 1995, Page 30) notes that, "In 1664, the three sons of Edward Dorsey took up and patented their father's survey of Hockley In The Hole." However, this patent makes no mention of an early survey. Note 3: The tract cannot be drawn because the fourth boiundary course lacks distance

      Major's Fancy (Major Edward Dorsey) 11/10/1695 - 186/187 acres. L23/257 SR7364.
Know yee that wee for and in consideration that Major Edward Dorsey of Ann Arundell County in our s'd Province of Maryland hath due unto him one hundred eighty six acres of land within this Province due unto him by virtue of a warrant for eight hundred fifty acres granted to him by the s'd Dorsey on 3/1/1694, as appears in this land office. Upon such conditions and terms as are exprefsed in our Conditions of Plantation of this our Province of Maryland, we doe therefore hereby grant unto the s'd Major Edward Dorsey all that tract of parcell of land called Major's Fancy lying in the s'd County between the South and Severn Rivers beginning at a bound tree on the land of Captain Richard Hill called Littleworth. Note 1: The location of this tract is not certain. The grant document states that the tract is located between the South and Severn Rivers adjoining a tract called Littleworth. Maryland Rent Rolls Page 224 also states that it is so located and includes it among Middle Neck Hundred tracts but does not indicate an adjoining tract. Page 258 (Rent Rolls) further indicates that Littleworth is located on the north side of the Severn River as does the patent document (IB&IL Ci/181 SR7 368-1). I have included this tract because it may be in the targeted area. Note 2: A duplicate of this patent is found in L23i/313 AR7365. Note 3: (from MSA Tract Index 73): By agreement between Edward and Samuel Dorsey, Samuel to give up claim of title to Round Bay to brother Joshua Dorsey in return for rights for Major's Fancy from Edward (PK1708/417).
