David Lewis was the son of "John Lewis, plant[er]" according to the baptism entry for David's brother Abraham Lewis. He was not the same man as "John Lewis, Esq." (as Isabella Miller's husband, Councilor John Lewis, is called in the 1704 quit rent roll of New Kent County. The same role shows another John Lewis with 375 acres of land, appropriate to "plant[er] designation of David and Abraham Lewis's father John. The executors of the last will and testament of David Lewis, Sr., who died in Albemarle County, Virginia, in 1779, were Joel Lewis, John Martin, James Lewis and Taliaferro Lewis. The subscribing witnesses to the same were, Stephen Willis, Anna Willis, Morning Clarkson, Robert Lewis and William Johnson.
