      Indenture made March 19, 1784; Richard Marshall and Margaret Marshall his wife in consideration of 37 pounds currency paid by George Dent Hardy have sold all their right title claim and interest unto the mill and premises on Piscattaway Creek which were devised by the last will of George Hardy to his sons Thomas Dent Hardey and the said George Dent Hardey in joint tenancy during the term of 12 years from this date until Lucy Hardy, daughter and heir of the said Thomas Dent Hardy shall arrive at the age of 16 years; as also the third of an undivided moiety of the same which Margaret Marshall is entitled as relict of the said Thomas Dent Hardey during her natural life.. I made sale of the property by the order of the Court of Maryland and have received the minor's money and it will remain with me in properity. The amount of expenses for Caroline and Reason $39.72 each annually since Sept 1820. The above was recorded 17 Feb 1823.

      Patboblex@aol.com - I've been in touch in recent days with Anne Stinson regarding the family of Richard and Margaret (thought to be Wilcoxen - widow Hardy), whose family settled in the Ky. counties of Nelson and Washington. Richard and Margaret married in 1782 in Prince George's Co. Many of the children in Ky. may be established by an inter-family suit brought by son Rezin/Reason in 1829.
      here is the text of the suit:

      Filed 10th March 1829
      To the honorable the Judge of the Nelson Circuit Court in chancery sitting your orator Reason Marshall would respectfully State that in the year Margaret Marshall your orators Deceased mother became your orators guardian Copy of guardians bond referred to and made a part thereof by appointment of the County Court of Said County and that there came to her hands as guardian Leven hundred and Three Dollars your orator would further State that after She became your orators guardian She made a purchase of a tract of land the farm whereon Jeremiah Marshall now lives containing acres and your orator believes She appropriated your orators money toward the Purchase of the Said land your orator States that Jeremiah Marshall administered on the estate of Said Margaret whom your orator makes Defendant to this bill your orator States that the following are also the heirs of the Said decedent namely Samuel Marshall, Richd H Marshall, Sarah Master [Masters] formerly Sarah Marshall, and Ezekiel Master, her husband, Josiah Marshall, Robert Marshall, Thomas Marshall, Polly Pope formerly Polly Marshall, and Joseph O Pope her husband, Letty Bayne formerly Letty Marshall, and Thomas Bayne her husband, Caroline Beckum [Beckham] formerly Caroline Marshall, and Nimrod Beckum her husband and Margaret Marshall all whom are made Defendents to this Bill the Said land is now in the possession of the Said administrator whom your orator calls upon to State what personal property Came to his hands and if There Should be a Sufficiency of personal property your orator prays a decree for the amount of your orators claim or against the Said Josiah Marshall & Joseph Pope as Securities of the Said guardian and that Justice may be done may it please your honor to grant unto your orator the Commonwealths writ of Subpoena Compelling the Said Defd to appear and answer all the allegations in this bill Say how much land decended from the Said Margaret Decd your orator prays that by a decree of this Court So much or Such a part of the Said land may be Sold as will be Sufficient to satisfy your orators Said claim of $704 and the Cost of this Suit and all other and further relief as to Justice may belong and your orator will ever pray &c

      to appear before the judge of our Nelson Circuit Court at the Courthouse in BardsTown on the 1st day of our March Term next to answer a bill in chancery Exhibited against them by Rezin Marshall

      On the back of this document is written "not executed March 10th 1829"

      Also on record is a form to the sheriff dated 10 July 1829 with the same requirements. The same people are listed in the same order.
      This one has on the back that it was executed on Jeremiah Marshall & Josiah Marshall July 15th 1829; Joseph O Pope, Thomas Bayne & Letty Bayne August 7th 1829; Polly Pope September 8th 1829.
      The implication, then, is that it was not executed on Samuel Marshall, Richard H. Marshall, Sarah Master, Ezekiel Master, Robert Marshall, Caroline Beckham, Nimrod Beckham, nor Margaret Marshall.

      Know all men by these presents that we Margaret Marshall, Josiah Marshall and Joseph Pope are held & firmly bound unto the commonwealth of Kentucky in the sum of three thousand dollars current money to be paid to the said commonwealth to which payment well & truly to be made we bind ourselves our heirs exors & admors jointly & Severally by these presents sealed with our seals & dated this 21st day of February 1820
      The condition of this obligation is that if the said Margaret Marshall Guardian of Reason Marshall infant orphan of Richard Marshall deceased do at the next term of the Nelson County court deliver into said court an inventory upon oath of all the estate of the said Orphan which she shall have received and exhibit in the said court in the month of August of every Year or at the next session if there be none in that month or oftener if she be specially required accounts of the produce of said estate of the sales & distribution of the produce & the disbursements & shall will & truly pay & deliver unto the said Orphan all such estate or estates as may be due to when shall come to the lawful age to demand the same or when thereto required by the justices of said court for the time being and in all other things do faithfully discharge said office according to law then this obligation to be void else to remain in full force.
