We have lots of different spellings Blissett, Blissitt, etc., but we all claim George Blissett, Sr., born in 1747 in Maryland as our first known ancestor. His wife was named Nancy but we have no maiden name for her. In 1790 George Lived in Chester (?)Co., SC per census, in 1800 he was in Chester County, SC and had a wife, 3 sons, and six daughters still living at home by 1806 he and part of the family lived in Hardin County, Kentucky. We know of 3 sons who moved to Georgia. We think there are other brothers than the first papers of Alma Blissit Sharp recorded and we have never learned the names of four of the daughters. I started looking for Alma after I found the quotes from her that Carla Rae Blissit Hefley had in her papers called BLISSIT MEMORIES dated 1991, Tulsa, OK. I found Alma (in her 90's) and she kindly sent me her research papers for the Blissit family which deal mainly with the Georgia brothers. I have talked to Carla's other source, Clara Blissit Barger, on the telephone but she has never sent me her research papers which researched the Kentucky branch (ours) and also Indiana family. I guess it is time to write her another letter as I wrote after our telephone conversation as have several other Internet cousins. They have sent me their oldest family photos and it is indeed interesting to see the Blissit noses and ears. My most cherished of them was a picture of George A. Blissett with his wife Martha.
George A. was the brother of William Christopher Blissit, who was Mamie's grandfather as listed above. Carla had found many interesting pictures in Uncle Raymond's albums and sold us copies of these pictures and her pages of Blissit Memories to recover her cost of reproducing the pictures and pages. I've really enjoyed them and that got me started on my Blissit/Blesset etc.
search. I believe part of the Georgia relatives did use the spelling of Blesset so who knows what the original spelling was. Since you have FTM you can check CD#8 Tree 0303. I have contacted Odis Blessitt who supplied this tree but he has no proof that John Blissett is the grandfather of George or that William Blissett married to Esther Norris were the parents of George Blissett - Odis' spelling. His records are mainly of the Georgia brothers (Stephen, Elisha, and Benjamin). He lists Reason who went to KY and then Indiana and two of the married daughters. Alma Beatrice Blissitt Sharp is the 8th generation in his tree and is the daughter of James Turner Blissit of Tishomingo County, Mississippi. To date I have found no one with all the children of George and Nancy with accurate information. The LDS site about William Blissett married to Esther Norris is very wrong concerning the children and grandchildren as they are in part children of George and Nancy our first ancestors. LDS does not list George as a son of William and Esther Norris Blissett. Odis may be right about the children of Stephen as this is his direct line but there are errors in Elisha's children and grandchildren as researched by a Georgia descendant of Elisha (first being his wife was named Nancy not Mary which was started by Alma Blissit Sharp as found in a signed paper with an X who thought her name was Mary) but I'm sure you have found many of the same census and court paper errors in your searches to
