      Ex. Thomas Colson, John Chew, James Marshall.
      Leg. son James, land on Matapony, known by name of "Lewis River," and tract of land whereon I now live;
      daughter Lucy Marye; daughter Susanna Marye; daughter Salley Marye; tract of land known as "Motts" to my daughters.
      The money Dr. William Marshall now owes me, three hundred and fourteen pounds, to be applied towards paying my part of the legacies which my father directed, by his will, should be paid his grandchildren.
      James Marshall and Dr. William Marshall, guardians to my son James.
      My brother Peter Marye and Col. Joseph Brock and my executors to be guardians to my daughters.
      In case any of my land should be sold, I desire it may be part of the tract whereon I live, which lies on the E. side of the Old Mine road.
      Codicil dated Oct. 3, 1780, witnessed by Joseph Brock and John Chew, and commencing "I, James Marye, clerk," etc. mentions daughter Sarah, son James, daughter Lucy. Money due me from Col. William Grayson, which bond is in the hand of Mr. John Smith, of Winchester, and the money due from my brother Peter, to be equally divided among my three younger children. Page 376)

      Marye & Wife to Redman Lease
      This indenture made the 13th day of October 1764 between James Marye of the Parish of St. Thomas in the County of Orange and Sarah Marye of the one part and Solomon Redman the parish of Cople and County of Westmoreland, millwright of the other part. Whereas Robert Vaulx, late of the parish of Washington and the County aforesaid, Gent., deceased did by his last will and testament bearing date the [blank] in the year 1750 [sic 8 Aug. 1754] did give and devise unto his two daughters Betty Vaulx and Sarah Vaulx his water grist mill lying on the main branch of Rappahannock Creek being near the dividing line of the parish of Cople and the parish of Washington in the County aforesaid. And whereas the said Sarah Vaulx has intermarried with the said James Marye. Now this indenture witnesseth that James Marye and Sarah Marye his wife in consideration of five shillings current money has sold unto Solomon Redman one moiety or half of the water grist mill aforesaid with all and singular the appurtenances to the same. To have and to hold the said moiety from the date next before the date of the date of these presence until the full-term of one whole year from thence next ensuing yielding and paying the rent of one pepper corn upon the feast day of Saint Michael the Archangel to the intent and purpose that by virtue of these presents and of the statute for transferring uses into possessions the said Solomon Redman may be in actual possession of the said moiety or half part of the water grist mill and be thereby enabled to accept and take a grant and release of the reversion and inheritance thereof. In witness whereof the parties to these presents have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year first above written.

      To Willoughby Newton, John Newton and John Augustine Washington, Justices of the Peace for the County of Westmoreland in the colony of Virginia, Gent. Whereas James Marye and Sarah Marye by their indenture of bargain and sale bearing date the 30th day of October last past has sold and conveyed unto Solomon Redman the fee simple estate of half a water grist mill lying in the parish of Cople in the County of Westmoreland and whereas the said Sarah Marye cannot conveniently travel to her court to make acknowledgment of the conveyance. Therefore, we do give unto you or any two of you power to receive the acknowledgment which the said Sarah be willing to make. Witness James Davenport, clerk of art said court the 10th day of November 1764.
      Westmoreland Sct. In obedience to the above commission to us directed we the subscribers did attend on the above-named Sarah Marye and presented to her the indentures therein mentioned and the said Sarah saith that she doth freely and voluntarily acknowledge and transfer her right and title to the half of the said mill therein mentioned without any compulsion or persuasion of her husband. Certified under our hands this 11th day of November 1764.
