      KNOW ALL MEN by these prsents that I WILLIAM PEIRCE of ye County of WESTMORELAND have for a full & valuable consideration in hand received sold unto ye said GEORGE BRUCE his heires or assignes forever One hundred & fifty acres of land scituated in ye FOREST between ye Rivers of POTOMACK & RAPPAE: being pt. of a Pattent of Foure thousand three hundred & ten acres granted unto me ye said PEIRCE ye 3d of Octobr. 1666 ye sd One hundred & fifty acres bounded as followeth beginning at a marked white Oak standing in a line of marked trees of Mr. JNO. LORD & WM. HORTON & runing along ye said line North East to a black Oakk standing in a SWAMP on ye North side of a Run, then West by North a poyntt No. to a mked. Hickory, thence S. by W. to ye first course, finally E to ye first station; To have & to hold ye said One hundred & fifty acres to him ye said GEORGE BRUCE his heires & assignes forever, wthall rights & priviledges thereunto belonging in as large manner to all intents as is to me ye said WILL. PEIRCE granted by ye said Pattent paying unto me for every fifty acres hereby sold yearly at ye Feast of St. Michael ye archangel! ye fee rent of one Shilling, And furthermore I sd. WM: PEIRCE doe hereby obleidge my selfe my heires to make good ye said land unto ye said GEORGE BRUCE his heires or assignes against ye Clayme of any orphant dor orphants for ever; or against ye Clayme of any other pson for Seaven yeares next ensuing ye date hereof & in case any person as abovesd. shall legally take away any part of ye sd land, then I ye sd WM: PEIRCE do hereby bind my heires or assignes to pay unto ye said BRUCE his heires or assignes for every hundred acres of land soe taken two thousand pounds of tobacco In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seale this twenty seventh day of July 1668

      - POPE v MARSON
      Upon the Petition ofMadam SARA PEIRCE, Relict of WILLIAM PEIRCE, of this County, Gent., deceased, on behalf of WILLAM PEIRCE their Grandson now under the tutorage and care of NATHANIELL POPE, Merchant, now in England, who married one of the Daughters of the said WILLIAM and SARA PEIRCE against Mr. THOMAS MARSON (Executor with WILLIAM PEIRCE, the Grandson (ofthe Last Will and Testament of WILLIAM PEIRCE, deced) to whom the education of WILLIAM PEIRCE, the Grandson, (then and still a minor and principall Legatee to the sd. WILLIAM PEIRCE, deceased, was comitted untill the age of twenty yeares, but upon Complaint made and duely proved to this Court of the sd MARSON's perverting the intent of the Testator in his Will expressed and neglecting to educate his Ward, the sd. WILLIAM PEIRCE was removed from the said MARSON by Order of this Court and placed with NATHANIELL POPE as above and said MARSON ordered to refund and pay annually to NATHANIELL POPE all such reasonable charges, disbursements and accounts as hee the said POPE should moderately expend and pay for and towards the sd PEIRCE his maintenance, education and schooleing. And complaining that the sd POPE had been at great charge, expence and disbursement in and above the same and produceing here in Court an account of his disbursements &c. amounting to two thousand five hundred ninety three pounds and one halfpound of tobacco for accomodation and schooleing, cloathing &c., the same being duely proved to this Court upon Oath in presence ofsd MARSON and hee not saying anything in barr of the same, it is considered THOMAS MARSON do forthwith reimburse NATHANIELL POPE or order on account of his said Ward the surne oftwo thousand five hundred ninety three pounds and one halfpound of tobacco the surne above disbursed and discount the same out of the Testator's Estate upon makeing upp the account.
