Captain Richard Wright had been appointed attorney for "Robert Tomlin of Rappahanock in Virginia," January 17, 1662, who refers in his letter of that date to "my loveing ffreind Mr Rich: Wright of Chicacone in Virginia"; but Captain Wright assigned his authority to John Hobson. This action by Mr. Richard Wright was probably taken to assist in discouraging the widow of Colonel Mottrom in her efforts to obtain as much as possible of the estate of her second husband, Colonel Mottrom. Hence he acted in the interest of the latter's children, in whose behalf he was always most watchful.

30 August 1711. Francis Wright of Cople Parish to Francis Spencer of the same. For 7,000 lbs. of tobacco. Recites that on 18 August 1662, Richard Wright father of said Francis Wright sold 900 acres of land on Nominy Bay to Nicholas Spencer, Esq. father of the said Francis Spencer. The land was the just right and inheritance of Ann, daughter of Col. John Mottrom, and wife of said Richard Wright and mother of said Francis Wright. Whereas Ann did not join in the deed and did not relinquish her right of dower, and reason thereof the land had descended to Francis Wright. For that reason, and the 7,000 lbs. of tobacco in cask, this deed to the 900 acres. Beginning at [A] a marked white oak at the head of the main branch of King Copsico Pond by the road that leads from the house of said Wright to the said Spencer, thence running "a straight course" to [B] a marked red oak standing by a swamp or branch flows out of Armsby"s Creek and near the dwelling house of Sam'l Chamberlin thence down the swamp cove and creek to [C] the head line of the whole dividend of land of Wright and Mottrom, thence along the head line water courses of Nominy Bay to [D] the mouth of King Copsico Pond and up the pond to [A] the beginning.
