Dr. John Courts, Will, December 3, 1802; August 2, 1803
I, John Courts of CC, being sick and wealk but of sound mind and memory;
To son William Smallwood Courts, tracts; "Christian Temple Manor", "Symsons Supply Resurveyed", "Thomas Town", "Thomas Town Help", "Coleby" and "Whitland" which were purchased by me out of General Smallwood's estate and from John Campbell and Henry H. Chapman, trustees appointed by the Chancellor of Maryland to sell the same.
Item: it is my will that the whole of the account raised by my wife against the estate of General William Smallwood and which I assigned to the trustees, be applied to the payments of the lands herein devised to my son William Smallwood Courts, and it is my will that my property to which I may have gained a right by my intermarriage with my wife Priscilla, shall be sold and the monies be applied to the payment of the land.
Item: That the lands devised to my son William Smallwood Courts shall be liable for the following debts: on to Charles Carroll and two to Walter Jameston.
To son William Smallwood Courts, negro Abraham, and a young arabian gray mare.
To wife Priscilla, my riding horse.
To son Robert Henley Courts, my Chickamuxon estate comprised of the following tracts; "Moores Regained", "Preston", part of "Allisons Folly Resurved", "Smallwoods Low Grounds", "Corsica Island", part of "None Such". The last tract bought from Richard Brooke, an dthe aforementioned tracts purchased by me out of General William Smallwoods estate and from John Campbell and Henry H. Chapman, trustees appointed by the Chancellor of Maryland to sell the same. Also negro Clarke and his wife and children, they being at this time in Culpeper in the state of Virginia.
To son Henry Fitzhugh Courts, the estate which Thomas Nelson now resides on comprising of the following tracts; Martin Freehold, Liverpool Point and Haw Point, the last two purchased by me from John Campbell, trustees appointed by the Chancellor of Maryland to sell the same.
To son Henry Fitzhugh Courts and daughter Susannah Courts, 1000 pounds now in the hands of John Campbell, equally divided, and that Henry's half may be used toward giving him an English education.
Item: it is my will that the residence of my estate be equally divided between my daughter Elizabeth Washington, Henry Fitzhugh Courts and Susannah Courts, provided my daughter Elizabeth Washington and her husband George Washington thro [sic] into "Hotch Pot", the property which they have heretofore received from me.

Charles County, Maryland Land Records 1813-1814; Liber IB-10 {Abstract by Mike Marshall}; Page 516. At the request of Richard Hill and Charles Hill the following Mortgage was recorded July 19, 1814
Indenture made July 5, 1814; between Priscilla H. Courts of Charles County of the one part and Richard Hill of King William County, Virginia and Charles Hill of Essex County, Virginia of the other part. Priscilla H. Courts in consideration of $2191 due to Richard Hill with interest from June 5, 1810 by bond dated June 5, 1810 carrying interest from the date payable to the said Charles Hill and by him assigned to Richard Hill which bond is given up by the said Priscilla H. Courts and for and in consideration of the sum of $400 with interest from June 5, 1810 due from Priscilla H. Courts to Charles Hill by bond dated June 5, 1810 and payable to Charles Hill then of King & Queen County, Virginia but now of Essex County, Virginia. She the said Priscilla H. Courts has sold a tract of land situated on Chickamuxen Creek in Charles County, Maryland it being one undivided 1/3rd part of a tract which descended to Elizabeth Washington, Susan F. Hill and Henry F. Courts from their brother Hendley Courts deceased and the same piece which Charles Hill and Susan F. Hill by their indenture dated June 13, 1814 have conveyed to Priscilla H. Courts; provided that if Priscilla H. Courts shall well and truly pay to Richard Hill the sum of $2191 dollars with interest from June 5, 1810 until payment on or before July 10 after date of this indenture and shall well and truly pay unto Charles Hill the said sum of $400 with interest from the June 5, 1810 until payment on July 10 after date of this indenture and in such case and at all times from thence forth these presents and all the estate hereby granted shall cease determined and be utterly void.
