      2. James, brother of John, was Commissioner of the Peace for St. Mary’s 1736-1749(64), and Burgess 1736-1744.(65) His name is spelt "Wauhop" in the Commission records, but is indexed as "Waughop”.
      James died in 1750. The short notice of him in the "Inventories” gives this date and the names of two of his kindred, Wm. Coutanceau Wauhope and Thomas Pal. Waughop (66) (see Page 149).
      The name of his son Thomas P. [?Palmer] Waughop appears in the Census of Maryland in 1790 as a "householder”. In his household were:
      Free white males of 16 years and upwards, including heads of families, 2.
      Free white males under 16, 0.
      Free white females, including heads of families, 4.
      All other free persons, 0.

KNOW ALL MEN by these presents that I JAMES TAYLOR of the County of Prince William Trusting to the Integrity and Honest Administration of GEORGE JOHNSTON Attorney at Law of the same County do hereby appoint the said GEORGE JOHNSTON my full and lawful! Attorney in fact to sue for and recover certain Negro's now in the hands and possession of JAMES WANGHOP {sic Waughop} in the Province of MARYLAND and to do whatsoever the said JOHNSTON shall think proper therein for the recovery thereof confirming whatsoever my said Attorney shall do or cause to be done.
