Mr. Henry Carter being examined touching a paper intimating the last will and testament of John Chilton replied he did write it by Chilton's direction. When he had writt it he read it over to Mr. Chilton and Mr. Chilton did like and approve of it. When he had nigh finished the same Chilton said all was well and that he would give the rest amongst them all, whereupon the latter clause save one was added. And for that the words my loving wife Jane Chilton and all my children, Mr. Chilton said he did not think there was any occasion of naming a wife in a will, but he believed the only cause why the will was not signed by Chilton was because there were no evidences to se the same done but that persons were present for to that purpose but came not while Mr. Chilton was sensible. Carter being asked whether the will bore date the same date it was wrote, he answered it did. And likewise being asked whether mr. Chilton ever desired him to write any other will for him, he answered no, not to his knowledge.
