    • mm note - several show this Wharton as son of Edward. There is one generation off. Ursula married Daniel Neale first by 1695. I believe Wharton is a brother of Edward and there are two Wharton Ransell families mixed together.

      Ransdell's Will
      In the name of God Amen, I Wharton Ransdell of Cople parish in the county of Westmoreland being in perfect health do make this my last will and testament.
      Item I give and bequeath unto my son Edward Ransdell the land whereon I now live to him his heirs and assigns also a piece of land I purchased of William Buckley adjoining to his land in the same manner, also my mulatto girl Susanna and my Negro girl baptized by the name Mary. Also my silver watch and my silver hilted sword, also my still and worm and all my little casks.
      Item there is a piece of land I purchased of Willoughby Newton on beaver dam run of Aquia Creek in Stafford County, part of which I gave my daughter Sarah Elliott Peirce by deed of gift at the North West end of said land. And the residue I give to my son Edward Ransdell in the same deed and there being no division lined between them.

      Item I give and bequeath unto my son Wharton Ransdell my Negro man George, and all my wearing close of every kind and nature
      Item I give and bequeath unto my son William Ransdell a piece of land near the North Cobbler Mountain in Prince William County to him and his heirs and assigns forever. Also my Negro girl Peggy and my mulatto boy Robin Wood
      Item I given to my daughter Sarah Elliott Peirce 20 shillings to buy her a ring having already settled portion of her.
      Item I given to my wife Sarah Ransdell my chair and chair harness and my horse colt Finch; my little horse called Draggon; my curtains and vallons that stands in the new closet and six cane chairs.
      Item I give all the remainder of my estate to be equally divided between my wife Sarah Ransdell and my three sons, Edward Ransdell, Wharton Ransdell and William Ransdell.
      Lastly, I nominate and appoint my wife Sarah Ransdell and my three sons Edward Ransdell, Wharton Ransdell and William Ransdell my whole and sole executors of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have but my hand and affixed my seal this 10th day of June 1755.

At a court held for the said County the 25th day of April 1758 this last will and testament of Wharton Ransdell deceased was presented into Court by Edward Ransdell one of the executors therein named who made oath thereto as the Law directs and the same being also duly proved by the oath of Richard Parker, Thomas Sanford and William Bruer witnesses thereto is admitted to record, and on motion of the said executor and his performing what the law in such cases requires certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate thereof in due form.

      THIS INDENTURE made this Thirtieth day of August in the Fourteenth year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George by the grace of God of Great Brittain France and Ireland. King, Defender of the faith &c., And in the year of our Lord Christ, one thousand seven hundred twenty and seven; Between WHARTON RANSDELL and URSULA his Wife of Cople Parish and County of Westmoreland of one part and WILLIAM STURMAN and JOHN PAINE of the Parish and County aforesaid of other part; Witnesseth that WHARTON RANSDELL and URSULA his Wife as well in consideration of the sum of five shillings lawfull money to them in hand payed by WM: STURMAN and JOHN PAINE, the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge, have and by these presents do bargain and sell unto WM: STURMAN and JOHN PAINE and their heirs all the hereinafter mentioned several Negro slaves which are called known and distinguished by the several names following (vizt.) Nat. Moll, Matthew & Frank. the said Matthew and Frank being Children born of the body of sd. Moll, Together with all their increase and all the right title and demand which WHARTON RANSDELL and URSULA his Wife or either of them now have or ought to have in the sd. Negroes; To have and to hold the several Negroes with all their increase unto WM: STURMAN and JOHN PAINE and their heires for the uses, intents and purposes hereafter in these presents set down, that is to say that the Negroes called by the several names abovesaid shall be and remain to and for the proper use benefit and behoofe of WHARTON RANSDELL and URSULA his Wife dureing their natural lives and the longest liver of them, and after their decease to the proper use benefit and advantage of ELIZABETH RANSDELL, EDWD, RANSDELL, WHARTON RANSDELL and WM: RANSDELL being the Children of the said WHARTON and URSULA as said WHARTON RANSDELL shall by Deed duely executed in his life time or by his Last Will and Testament direct and appoint; In Witness whereof the partys to these presents have hereunto interchangeably set their hands and seales the day & year above written

Annoq: Dom: 1727; Between WILLIAM BERKLEY of the Parish of Overwharton in the County of STAFFORD, Planter, of one part and WHARTON RANSDELL of Cople Parish in County of Westmoreland, Planter, of other part; Witnesseth that WM: BERKLEY in consideration of the sum of Seven thousand pounds of tobacco and Forty shillings current money to him in hand paid by WHARTON RANSDELL the receipt whreof WM: BERKLEY doth hereby acknowledge, hath and by these presents doth bargain and sell unto WHARTON RANSDELL (in his actual possession now being by virtue of a bargain & sale to him made for one year and by force and vertue of the Statute for transferring uses into possession) his heirs all that full quantity of One hundred acres of land scituate in Parish of Cople in County of Westmoreland being part of a Pattent (this Release continues as in the foreoing Lease including the description of the bounds of the land); To have and to hold the one hundred acres of land and all premises with appurtenances unto WHARTON RANSDELL his heirs and WILLIAM BERKLEY unto WHARTON RANSDELL his heirs against all persons shall warrant and for ever defend by these presents: free and clear from all in cumbrances (the Rent and Services from henceforth to become due and payable to the Chief Lord or Lords of the Fee only excepted); In Witness whereof the partys first abovenamed to these present Indentures have interchangeably set their hands and seals the day & year first above written

      THE CONDICON of the above obligacon is such that if the above bound WM. BERKELY his heires shall observe and keep all the covenants and agreements which on his or their part ought to be observed and kept menconed in Deeds of Lease and Release made between WM: BERKELY and WHARTON RANSDELL. Then this obligacon to be voyd and of none effect, otherwise to be and remain in full force power and vertue

      affection I have for my dutifull Sons WHARTON RANSDELL and WILLIAM RANSDELL give unto them as followeth
      First reserving to myself the use of One hundred acres of land in Prince William County on BUTTONS BRANCH during my life and afterwards to my two Sons herebefore mentioned & their heirs forever,
      And then I give part of a tract of land to my Son WILLIAM RANSDELL which I purchased of Capt. THOMAS BARBER on and near CEDAR RUN in Prince William County containing Three hundred and fifty acres bounded beginning at a Corner of the said Land near MR. SCOTT's Quarter and from thence along the division line between this land and the land of Mr. FRANCIS THORNTON to where it crosses BUTTONS BRANCH to a white Oak at the mouth of it near CEDAR RUN thence down a line of marked trees crossing the points near the Low growns of the said Run to a white Oak on a point thence crossing the Low growns and Run to a white Oak at the mouth of BARBERS BRANCH thence along a line of marked trees up the said Branch to the line of RICHARD GRUBBS then along said GRUBS line to a red Oak on the top of a hill thence down a line of marked trees to a Beach on CEDAR RUN in the line of MR SCOTT thence up the said Run to the first beginning To Have and To Hold the said land to my said Son WILLIAM RANSDELL his heirs and assigns forever.
      Next to my Son WHARTON RANSDELL give Four hundred & Twenty acres of land being the part of that parcel of land I purchased of Capt. THOMAS BARBER on and near CEDAR RUN abovesd the rest of which I have given to my Son WILLIAM RANSDELL abovesd. To Have and To Hold the said land to him my said Son WHARTON RANSDELL his heirs and assigns forever
