-This Indenture made the twelfth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and twenty nine Between WILLIAM TODD of the parish of Drysdale in the County of King and Queen, Gent. of the one part and JOHN MINOR of the County of Spotsylvania, planter of the other part. Witnesseth that the said WILLIAM TODD for and in consideration of the sum of forty pounds current money of Virginia to him in hand paid by the said JOHN MINOR at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge and himself therewith fully satisfied contented and paid and for divers other good causes and considerations him thereunto moving hath granted bargained sold aliened assigned released and confirmed for himself and his heirs unto the said JOHN MINOR his heirs and assigns a certain tract or parcel of land situate lying and being in the County of Spotsylvania aforesaid at the Little Mountains, containing three hundred and twenty eight acres Bounded as followeth [Vizt.] Beginning at two white oaks and a chesnut oak and running thence by the Brow of a Naked Mountain north west two hundred and eight two pole near a black gum and three red oak saplins in the line that divides the land from HORNBY's and BEAL's thence south sixty degrees east two hundred and five pole to three angular white oaks on Falling Ground thence south west two hundred and twenty five pole to four pines and a hickory on the north side of a branch thence north eighty degrees west two hundred and forty pole to the first mentioned Beginning which said three hundred and twenty eight acres of land and premises with the appurtenances thereunto belonging now in the actual possession of him the said JOHN MINOR by virtue of an Indenture of bargain and sale to him thereof made by the said WILLIAM TODD for the form or one whole year bearing date the day before the date of these presents and by virtue of the Statute for Transferring uses into possessions and all the Estate Right Title Interest use property Revision claim and demand whatsoever of him the said WILLIAM TODD his heirs and assigns and every other person or persons whatsoever together with all and singular Deeds, Wills evidences writings records Exemplification of records Escrips and Minuments whatsoever touching or concerning the premises or any part or parcell thereof To Have and To Hold the said land and all and singular other the premises and every part and parcel thereof with the appurtenances unto the said JOHN MINOR his heirs and assigns to the only proper use and behoof of him the said JOHN MINOR his heirs and assigns for ever and the said WILLIAM TODD for himself his heirs Executors and administrators doth by these presents promise grant and agree to and with the said JOHN MINOR his heirs and assigns that he the said WILLIAM TODD now hath a good sure absolute and lndefeasable Estate in fee simple of in and to the said granted premises and every part thereof and so shall and will continue to have until the Estate herein and hereby intended to be made shall be fully and absolutely perfected and compleatly vested in the said JOHN his heirs and assigns and that the said WILLIAM hath good right and lawful! authority to convey and assure the same unto the said JOHN his heirs and assigns and that the said granted premises and every part and parcell thereof are free and clear and freely and clearly acquitted exonerated and discharged of and from all former and other gifts grants bargains sales conveyances leases statutes recognizances judgments mortgages extents dowers titles and incumbrances whatsoever and so shall continue to the said JOHN and to his heirs and assigns for ever and that he the said WILLIAM and his heirs all and singular the before granted premises with their and all of their appurtenances unto the said JOHN his heirs and assigns from time to time and at all times hereafter shall and will warrent and forever defend by these presents according to the true intent and meaning hereof against all persons whatsoever and the said WILLIAM for himself his heirs Executors doth covenant grant and agree to and with the said JOHN his heirs and assigns that it shall and may be lawfull to and for the said JOHN his heirs tenents and assigns from time to time and all times hereafter according to the true meaning intent and purpose of these presents peaceably and quietly to enter into and upon have hold use occupy possess and enjoy the aforementioned land and other the premises without any lawfull or equitable Lott Suit Trouble Denial Exception Eviction Claim or Demand of any person or persons whatsoever and further that he the said WILLIAM his heirs and assigns shall and will at any time within the space of one hundred year's next ensueing the date hereof upon request make levy acknowledge Execute and suffer or cause to be made levyed acknowledged Executed and suffered all and every such further and other careful! and reasonable assurance and at in the law for the further better more absolute assuring and conveying of the said premises to the use and behoof aforesaid according to the true intent and meaning of these presents. Witnesseth that the said WILLIAM TODD and MARTHA his wife for and in consideration of me SUM or forty one pounds ten shillings current money of Virginia to them in hand paid by the said PHILIP TODD at and before the ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof they the said WILLIAM TODD and MARTHA his wife do hereby acknowledge and thereof and of every part and parcell thereof do acquit exonerate and discharge the said PHILIP TODD his heirs Executors &c. Witnesseth that the said WILLIAM TODD by one lease to him by the said Feoffees or Trustees made the bearing date the day before the date of these presents is in actual and peaceable possession of the premises herein after granted to the intent that by virtue of the said lease and of the Statute for Transferring uses into possessions he may be the better enabled to accept a conveyance and release of the reversion and inheritance thereof to him and his heirs forever the said Feoffees or Trustees for divers good causes and considerations them thereunto moving but more especially for and in consideration of fifty five shillings current money of Virginia to him in hand paid at and before the ensealing and delivery hereof the receipt whereof and themselves therewith fully satisfyed and paid they do hereby acknowledge have granted, bargained, sold, remised released and confirmed, and by these presents for themselves do grant, bargain, sell, remise, release, convey and confirm, unto the said WILLIAM TODD one lott of ground in the town of Fredricksburg described in the plat of the said town by the figures 60 situate lying and being on one of the Great Streets of the two called Princess Anne Street and upon one of the lesser called William Street with all woods thereon growing or being together with all profits, commodities emoluments and advantages whatsoever to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining To have and to hold the said granted premises and every part thereof with the appurtenances unto the said WILLIAM TODD and to his heirs forever To be had and held for our Sovereign Lord the King in free and common socage yielding and paying the Quit Rents due and legally accostumed to be paid for the same to the only use and behoof of him the said WILLIAM TODD his heirs and assigns forever under the limitations and reservations hereafter mentioned and not otherwise [that is to say] that if the said WILLIAM TODD his heirs or assigns shall not within the space of two years next ensuing the date hereof begins to build and finish upon the said Lott of the said granted premises one good dwelling house of such dimensions and to be placed in such manner as by one act of Assembly made at the Capitol in the City of Williamsburg me first day ci February in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and twenty seven entituled an act for erecting a town in each of the County's of Spotsylvania and King George is directed or as shall be agreed upon prescribed and directed by the Directors appointed for the Settlement and Encouragment of the town of Fredricksburg pursuant to the trust in them reposed by virtue of the said act of Assembly, then it shall and may be Iawfull to and for the said Feoffees or Trustees and their Successors the Feoffees or Trustees for the land appropriated for the building and erecting the town of Fredricksburg for the time being into the said granted premises and every part thereof with the appurtenances enter and the same to have again as of their former estate To have and to hold and enjoy in like manner as the might otherwise have done if these presents have never been made. Branch .. to Fitzhughs reputed line formerly Catletts several Islands, particularly the first mentioned Island called Vicaris's Island to the Beginning .. excluding 50 acres which were by vertue of an Act of Assembly of the Colony made in year 1727 layed off for a Town called Falmouth & for considerations mentioned Martha Todd doth grant all her four lotts or half acres in said Town of Falmouth whereon the public Warehouses for receiving Tobacco now stand .. Witnesseth that whereas THOMAS VICARIS Clerk Father of the said Martha Todd obtained a Patent from HERBERT JEFFERIES Esqr. Governour of this Colony of Virginia bearing date 10th April 1678 for 1260 acres of land on North side Rappahannock River above & below the Falls and whereas MARGARET LADY CULPEPER, THOMAS LORD FAIRFAX and CATHERINE his Wife Proprietors of the Northern Neck of Virginia by a certain grant bearing date 2nd June 1703 reciting that Thomas Vicaris of Gloucester County Clerk deced had obtained a grant dated 12th September 1690 from PHILIP LUDWELL Esquire their then Agent for 1260 acres on North side of Rappahanock River then Richmond County & that said Thomas Vicaris did give said land to his daughter Martha an Infant seting forth further that DORATHY KNOWLES late the Widow of the said Thomas Vicaris Mother to the said Martha had represented to their office in the said Northern Neck that said tract had never been seated nor had been granted to any other person, and moved for a new grant to issue in the name of the said Martha further reciting that they having respect the premises .. did thereby grant the said 1260 acres to MARTHA VICARIS (now Martha Todd) party to these presents .. and whereas it is suggested that an Elder grant from the Proprietors of the Northern Neck aforesaid to one (blank) CATLETT interferes with the Bounds of the above mentioned grant .. so as to exclude & take away about 300 acres .. from the bounds specified and whereas by Virtue of an Act of the Generall Assembly of this Colony in year 1727 Intituled An Act for Erecting a Town in each of the Countys of Spotsylvania & King George 50 acres part .. was vested in certain Trustees in the said Act layed off for a Town called Falmouth and by said Act was provided that the Trustees therein mentioned should assign unto WILLIAM TODD (then Husband of said Martha since deceased) four Lotts in the Town whereof he should be seised of the same Estate as he then had in the said 50 acres. Now Martha Todd .. being seised in Fee Simple of 900 acres together with the four Lotts in Falmouth hath agreed to sell to said John Dixon ..

Indenture 7 July 1773 between WILLIAM TODD and PHOBE, his wife, of Pittsylvania County, son and heir of RICHARD TODD, late of County of King & Queen, and BETTY TODD, Widow of sd Richard of one part, and ZACHARIAH BURNLEY and CHARLES SMITH of Orange County of other part .. Whereas William Todd late of King & Queen County in Last Will and Testament dated 12th February 1736 gave land in Orange County to his daughters, Dorothy and Betty, his Grandson, William Gorden, and Richard Barbour, and all the residue thereof being 885 acres he gave to his son, Richard Todd, and whereas Richard Todd was seised of tract of 468 acres in County of King & Queen and possessed in his own right .. Negroe slaves .. obtained an Act of the General Assembly of the Colony which recev'd the Royal assent the 26th November 1770 .. To vest 1285 acres, part of the 1880 acres in sd Richard Todd in fee and to vest the 468 acres in King and Queen and mentioned slaves in Richard Todd, and in default of heirs .. to such person as the land in Orange would have descended under will of W. Todd. This Indenture witnesseth that Wm. -This Indenture made this twenty eight day of March in the second year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Second by the Grace of God of Grate Britaine France and Ireland King Defender of the faith &c. and in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred and thirty Between WILLIAM TODD of King and Queen County, Gent. of the one part and JOHN SCOTT of Spotsylvania County of the other part. Witnesseth that the said WILLIAM TODD for and in consideration of the sum of five shillings of lawfull money of England to him in hand paid by the said JOHN SCOTT the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge hath bargained and sold and by these presents doth bargain and sell unto the said JOHN SCOTT all that the said WILLIAM TODD his parcell or tract of land containing one thousand acres lying on the south side THOMAS CHEW's Mill Creek at the Little Mountain in Spotsylvania County and bounded as followeth [to wit] Beginning at a corner pine of THOMAS CHEW runing along his line north sixty degrees west four hundred pole to two red oaks and white oak on the south side a hill thence south fifty degrees west four hundred pole to a corner popler and chesnutt on the north side of a hill neare a rock of stones thence south sixty degrees east four hundred pole to three white and red oak on the east side of a branch thence north fifty degrees east four hundred pole to the Beginning And the reversion and reversions remainder and remainders together with the rents and profits of the premises and of every part and parcel thereof To have and to hold the said thousand acres of land above bounded and all and singular other the premises and every of their appurtenances unto the said JOHN SCOTT his Exrs. Admrs. and assigns from the day before the date hereof for during the term of one whole year from thence next ensuing and fully to be compleat and ended yielding and paying therefore the yearly rent of one Ear of Indian Corn at the feast of Saint Michael the Arch Angel only if the same be demanded to the Intent that by virtue of these presents and of the Statute for Transferring uses into possession the said JOHN SCOTT may be in the actual possession of the premises and be enabled to accept a grant of the Reversion and Inheritance thereof to him and his heirs and assigns whereof the said WILLIAM TODD to these presents hath Interchangeably set his hand and seal the day and year first above written.

Witnesseth that the said WILLIAM TODD for and in consideration of the sum of twenty pounds sterling money of Great Brittain to him in hand paid by the said JOHN SCOTT before the ensealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge and thereof and of every part and parcel of the same doth clearly and acquit and discharge the said JOHN SCOTT his heirs Exrs. and Admrs. and every of them by these presents hath granted aliened released and confirmed and by these presents for the consideration above sett down doth grant alien release and confirm unto the said JOHN SCOTT in his actual possession now being by vertue of a bargain and sale thereof made for one whole year by Indenture bearing date the day before the date hereof and by force of the Statute for Transferring uses into possession and to his heirs and assigns all that the said WILLIAM TODD his percel or tract of land containing one thousand acres lying on the south side THOMAS CHEW's Mill Creek at the Little Mountain in Spotsylvania County and bounded as followeth [to wit] Beginning at a corner pine of THOMAS CHEW runing along his line north sixty degrees west four hundred pole to two red oaks and white oak on the south side a hill thence south fifty degrees west four hundred pole to a corner popler and chesnutt on the north side of a hill near a rock of stones thence south sixty degrees east four hundred pole to three white and red oak on the east side of a branch thence north fifty degrees east four hundred pole to the Beginning which said thousand acres of land above bounded is part of a pattent granted to the said WILLIAM TODD baring date [blank] and all the Estate Right title interest use property and claim of him the said WILLIAM TODD his heirs and assigns of or unto the premsies with their and every of their appurtenances and ther reversion and reversions remainder and remainders of all and singular the premises within their and every of theri appurtenances To have and to hold the said thousand acres of land above bounded and all and singular other the premises herein before mentioned and intended to be hereby granted with their and every of their appurtenance unto the said JOHN SCOTT his heirs to the only use and the said JOHN SCOTT and his heirs and assigns for ever And the said WILLIAM TODD for himself his Exrs. and Admrs. doth covenant and grant to and with the said JOHN SCOTT his heirs and assigns by these presents to that he the said WILLIAM TODD now is and standeth lawfully and rightfully seized of and in the said thousand acres of land above bounded and the appurtenances of a good sure perfect absolute and Indefeasible Estate in fee simple and now hath good rightfull power and lawful! and absolute authority to grant and convey the same according to the purport true intent and meaning of these presents and that it shall and may be lawfully to and for the said JOHN SCOTT his heirs and assigns from time to time and at all times for ever hereafter peaceably and quietly to have hold occupy possess use and enjoy the premises above granted and every the appurtenances thereunto belonging without the least disturbance hindrances or molestation of him the said WILLIAM TODD his heirs or assigns and him and them safe harmless and Indemnified will keep and maintain off and from all Incumbrances or Evictions whatsoever and the said WILLIAM TODD for himself his heirs Exrs. and Admrs. the said Thousand acres of land above bounded and the premises with their and every of their appurtenances unto the said JOHN SCOTT and his heirs against him the said WILLIAM TODD his heirs and all claiming or to claim by from or under him them or any of them hath and will warrant for ever and defend by these presents. In Witness whereof the said WILLIAM TODD to these presents hath Interchangeably set ms nand and difiAed his seal the day and year first above written.
