THIS INDENTURE made the Fifth day of November in ye year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Eighteen Between JOS; WAUGH of ye County of STAFFORD, Planter, of ye one part and SAMLL. MATTHEWS of ye County of Richmond, Gent. of ye other part; Witnesseth that JOS: WAUGH for ye sum of Forty eight Shillings Sterling to him in hand paid by SAMLL. MATHEWS by these p:sents doth bargaine & sell unto SAMLL. MATTHEWS and assignes all that parcell containing Twelve hundred acres situate in County of Richmond and bounded, Begining at a marked Popler & extending thence W: 336 poles to a marked corner red Oak, thence No, 374 poles to another marked corner red Oak standing near Mr. HANDCOCK LEEs Quarter, thence N: E: 480 poles to a marked corner Hickory, thence So: 718 poles to ye first begining marked Popler, which Twelve hundred acres of land was formerly granted to JOHN WAUGH, Clarke, Father unto ye sd; JOS: WAUGH, party to these presents; by a Pattent for Six thousand three hundred and Fifty acres by Patent busing date ye Second day of March in ye year of our Lord one thousand Six hundred and Ninety one two, And all houses orchards timber trees rents issues and profitts thereof; To have and to hold the Twelve hundred acres and all ye premises could ye sd: SAMLL. KNOW ALL MEN by these presents that I SAML. MATHEWS of King & Queen County & Parish of St. Stephens in Virginia for love and affection which I have & do bear towards my Children ELIZA, MATHEWS & MARY MATHEWS wch I had by my loveing Wife deceased have given to my said Children Eliza. & Mary Mathews & their heirs forever (Vizt)
To my Daughter Eliza I give to her the sum of one hundred pounds Sterling more having already left her by her Grandfather COLLO. THOS. PAULLIN deceased the said sum to be paid her at day of her Marriage and when she shall attain to the age of twenty one years
And also I give to my Daughter Mary Mathews her heirs the sum of one hundred & fifty pounds Sterling to be paid when she arrives at the age of twenty one years or els at the date of her Marriage,
My true intent & meaning is that these my gifts be paid as before mentioned, if both of them live & in case either of them should dye before marriage or come to the age & before menchoned the deceased childs part to be to the survivor. & if it should please God both of them should die before Mariage or attain to the age aforesaid, the said sums or gifts of money to be at my own Dispsll to make what use I please of the same & no other person or persons to have any right or title in any part of them, And allsoe all my right & title to make over unto both of my before named Daughters forever, of a certain parcell of land which is comonly called by the name of GEDARD, when please God to call me out of this world before my sd Children should arive to the ages aforesaid, or marled, the said sum or sums be paid them out of my Estate or to their gardians, the said sums & premises I freely & voluntarealy give unto my said Children as before named as their proper Estates according to the true meaning hereof In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 10th of 7br 1706

KNOW ALL MEN by these presents that I SAMLL. MATHEWS of King and Queen County & Parish of St. Stephens Gent, doe stand firmly bound & Indebted unto Mrs, ELIZA. PAULLIN & GEORGE BRAXTON of the County aforesaid in sum of five hundred pounds Sterl. money of England to be paid to the said Eliza. Paullin or George Braxton or either of them their heirs on demand to which payment well and truly bounded in penal sum of one thousand pounds Sterl, money this 10th day of 7br 1706.
THE CONDITION of the above obligation is such that if the above bounden Samuel Mathews his heirs shall truly perform & stand unto all a certain Deed of Gift made unto his two Daughters ELIZA. MATHEWS & MARY MATHEWS the said Deed bearing date with these presents according to the meaning of the same without fraud or delay & allsoe confirm by any other writing which shall be demanded in behalf of the said children by Eliza. Paullin or George Braxton as their Council at Law shall advise them the above obligation to be voyd else to stand in full force.

Indenture made 3rd September 1754 between MOSLEY BATTALEY of Spotsylvania County and SAMUEL BATTALEY of same Eldest son and Heir at law of said Moses Battaley and ELIZABETH his late deceased wife Mother of said Samuel Battaley of one part and JOHN CHAMPE of King George County Gent. of other .. for sum One hundred pounds current money of Virginia .. have forever quitted claim .. all the Estate Right Title Interest claim & Demand which they have to all that tract of land containing 2000 acres lying in Brunswick Parish and King George County formerly granted to Lieutenant Colonel SAMUEL MATHEWS now deceased by patent bearing date 7th September 1654 and lately purchased by said John Champe of one BALDWIN MATHEWS late of county King George now also deceased which parcel of land descended to Captain SAMUEL MATHEWS grandson to Lieutenant Collo. Samuel Mathews who by his last will and testament in writing bearing date 16th November 1718 did devise said land unto his son FRANCIS MATHEWS and if his then wife should be with child if a son said tract of land to be equally divided between said Francis Mathews and such son but if both of them should happen to die in the life time of his sons JOHN and BALDWIN MATHEWS that then the tract of land should be equally divided between his sons John and Baldwin Mathews which said Baldwin Mathews as the only surviving son of the last mentioned Samuel Mathews deceased did sell said land unto John Champe but whereas the Right of the said Baldwin Mathews to sell & dispose of the said tract of land is like to be Drawn in Question .. it appearing none of his sons having more than an estate for life in said tract of land and that Elizabeth Battaley the late deceased wife of Mosley Battaley was the only surviving child at heir at law to the last mentioned Samuel Mathews, who together with her said husband Moseley Battaley, were jointly seized in part of said tract whereby the said Moseley Battaley having issue the said Samuel Battaley and several other children by the said Elizabeth had a right to claim the said Tract of land for his life time as tenant by the curtesie of England and that the said Samuel Battaley as Heir at Law to the said Elizabeth his Mother as also to his grandfather the last mentioned Samuel Mathews hath a Right of Remainder in Fee to said Tract of land after the decease of his said Father .. Now for preventing any suit .. this Indenture Witnesseth that Mosely Battaley and Samuel Battaley .. unto John Champe warrant and defend these Presents ..
