      THIS INDENTURE made the Sixteenth day of January in the first yeare of ye Reigns of our Sovereigns Lady Anne by the grace of God of England &c., and in the yeare of our Lord God One thousand seven hundred and two Betweene JOHN BROWN of the Parish of ST. MARYES in the County of Richmond, Carpenter, and SARAH his Wife of the one part and EDWARD TAYLOR of the same place and County, Carpenter, of the other part. Whereas Sr: WILLIAM BERKELEY, Knt., late Governor and Capt. Genll. of Virginia, by Patent beareing date ye Seventh day of August which was in the years of our Lord One thousand six hundred sixty and nine, did give and grant for the considerations therein mentioned unto WM. BROWNE and WILLIAM BALTROPP Seven hundred fourty & foure acres of Land lying and being in the FORREST betwee.ne the Rivers of POTOMACK and Rappahannock in the County of WESTMORELAND (but since the Division of the Counties in the County of Richmond) as in and by the same relation thereto being had it may more fully appears; And whereas the said ILLIAM BROWNE in his lifetime, that is to say, by his last Will and Testament in writing did give and bequeath unto JOHN BROWNE by the name of JOHN BROWNE his Son One hundred sixty fours acres of land out of his share and devident as aforesaid (as in and by the said Will remaining upon the records of ESSEX County amongst other things It doth and may more fully and att large appears) NOW THIS INDENTURE WITTNESSETH that the said JOHN BROWNE and SARA his said Wife for the summe of Two thousand pounds of good sound merchantable Leafe tobbo; and caske to them in hand paid have sold unto the said EDWARD TAYLOR his heires and assignes forever Sixty fours acres of Land next adjacent and adjoyning to the Land of the said EDWARD TAYLOR, party to these presents, together with all rights and advantages to the same belonging, to be held out of the said land given and bequeathed to the said JOHN BROWNE by the Last Will and Testament of his said Father deced., To have and to hold the said Land with all rights unto the said EDWARD TAYLOR his heires and assignes forever, And the said JOHN BROWNE for him-selfe his heires doth hereby promise that he and his heires will att the special! instance of the said EDWARD TAYLOR his heires deliver any other Deed or assurance in the Law for the better assureing the said Land unto the said EDWARD TAYLOR & also that ye said EDWARD TAYLOR his heires may lawfully hold and enjoy the said Land without the trouble or disturbance of the said JOHN BROWNE and SARAH his Wife their heires or any other persons whatsoever. And that the said JOHN BROWNE and SARAH his Wife shall acknowledge this Deed in the Court. of the County of Richmond, And that the said Land is to run the full length with the said EDWARD TAYLORs Land. S. 138 poles over a Branch to a Stake nigh the House, thence W 15 N: to a Mulberry tree in the Old Field, 34 pole, thence N. 64d. W: 27 pole to a white Oak saplin, thence W: 15 N: 31 pole to a red Oake, thence N. 2d. WILLIAM MARSHALL also appeared and by virtue of a Letter of Attorney from SARAH BROWNE, Wife of the said JOHN BROWNE, relinquished her right of Dower to the Land in this Deed conveyed wch: is also admitted to Record

      KNOW ALL MEN by these presents that I JOHN BROWNE of the Parish of St. Mar-yes and County of Richmond, Planter, do acknowledge and confess my self to stand justly indebted unto THOMAS WHITE of the same County and Parish, Planter, the just and full summe of Nineteen thousand pounds of good sound and merchantable Leafe Tobbo : and cask to be paid convenient to water in the County and Parish abovesaid upon demand to the true payment whereof I bind my selfe my heirs firmly by these presents; Sealed with my seale this second day of February one thousand seven hundred and twelve
      The Condition of the above obligation is such that if the abovesaid JOHN BROWNE his heirs do keep THOMAS WHITE his heirs in quiet and peaceable possession of a tract of land containing fifty acres wch: the said THOMAS WHITE bought of ye sd. JOHN BROWNE from all manner of troubles that shall or might be hereafter and from ye clayme or claymes of all manner of persons whatever as by a Deed of Sale bearing date the (blank) doth express, Then this obligation to be voyd and of no effect, otherwise to stand and remaine in full force and virtue

COB#1, Page 297: 4 February 1725/6 = Administration on the estate of John Brown, deceased, is granted to his widow, Sarah Brown, with Jeremiah Brown and John Hardy her securities. On the same day the said Sarah Brown entered into bond as administratrix of her late husband and Jeremiah Brown and John Hardy signed same as her securities. [BB#l, Page 7b and 8b]. No inventory of the estate of John Brown has been located in the surviving records.
