Mary Wise, born say 1714, was the servant of Robert Wells on 21 August 1732 when she appeared in Prince George's County, Maryland Court and admitted that she had given birth to an illegitimate "Malatto" child. The court bound her nine-week-old child Becky to serve for thirty-one years and sold her and the child to her master for 1,500 pounds of tobacco [Court Records 1732-4, 14].
