Sanford's Will
In the name of God Amen, I Richard Sanford, Sr. of Westmoreland county being weak and sick of body but of perfect sence and sound memory do make this my last will and testament.
I give and bequeath unto my loving wife Susannah Sanford all my whole estate of what kind soever during her widowhood.
Item I give and bequeath to my son Richard Sanford [missing] plantation whereonhe now lives in Fairfax County containing [missing] Negroes; Cuffy and Moll and the said Moll’s future increase.
Item I give and bequeath to my son Robert Sanford my two negroes; Jacob and Joan and the said Joan’s future increase. Only my will and desire is that the first child that the said Joan brings and lives to be two years old do give to my grand daughter Susannah Sanford, daughter of my son Edward Sanford or 15 pounds current money.
Item I give and bequeath to my son Edward Sanford the plantation whereon I now live on in Westmoreland County containing two hundred acres. Also, two Negroes; Wepster and Judea and the said Judea’s future increase.
Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Frances Harrison 15 pounds current money after my will is proved.
Item I lend to my daughter Elizabeth Cox, negro girl Jenny and her increase during her natural life and after her death return to my three sons.
Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Ann Muse 1,000 pounds crop tobacco to be paid after my will is proved.
Item I give and bequeath to my kinsman Augustine Sanford, one pistole to be paid to him by my executors after my will is proved.
Item it is my will and desire is that my three negroes; Cango Tom, Old Jenny and Little Tom shall be sold for money to discharge my just debts if my executor thinks fit, otherwise they paying the said debts may dispost of the negroes as they think proper.
Item I give and bequeath to my grand son Franklin Perry, 1 shilling sterling which I allot to be in full part of his mother Susannah Perry, deceased part of my whole estate.
Item I give and bequeath to my grand son Richard Muse 1 shilling which I allot to be in full part of his mother Mary Muse, deceased part of my whole estate.
Item I give and bequeath to my grand son Thomas Muse 1 shilling which I allot to be in full part of his mother Sarah Muse, deceased part of my whole estate.
Item all the rest of my estate herein [not other] wise bequeathed I give and bequeath to my three sons [xxx] equally between them.
Item lastly I do appoint my three sons Richard Sanford, Robert Sanford and Edward Sanford whole and sole executors of this my last will and testament.
In confirmation whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 25th day of July 1757

Westmoreland Sct. At a Court held for said County the 30th day of October 1759 last will and testament of Richard Sanford, deceased was presented into Court by the executors therein named who made oath thereto and being duly proved by the oath of all the witnesses thereto is admitted to record in upon the motion of the said executors and their performance what the law in such cases require certificate is granted them for obtaining a probate thereof in due form.
