Major John Washington had previously purchased on March 8, 1665, of Robert Porter and Peter Gramer 250 acres of land with the housing and clear ground (part of 663 acres patented March 23, 1659, to Richard Hill) lying between Richard Griffin and Lawrence Washington [Abbington] but the deed of Richard Hill to Robert Porter, September 6, 1665, describes Lawrence as "Abbington," which latter name is correct. The error was made in 1802 when Wm. Spence transcribed the original record of 1665 into the book Deeds & Wills No. 1 at page 295.
