Sarah Swann, born say 1688, was a "Mollatto Hired woman" servant of Col. Hoskins on 9 September 1707 when the Charles County, Maryland Court presented her for having an illegitimate child by a "Negroe." She admitted her guilt to the same offense on 8 June 1714, and the court ordered that she serve her master an additional four years. On 10 June 1718 the court presented her for having another illegitimate child, and on 12 August 1718 the court sentenced her to 12 lashes "so that ye blood appear" because she had no one to pay her fine. Jacob Miller, innholder, was security for the payment of her court fees. On 11 November 1718 the court rejected the petition of William Hoskins that his "mollatto" servant Sarah Swann had born a child in his house for which he had received no reparation [Court Record 1704-10, 373; 1711-5, 402; 1717-20, 104, 142].

At last Jun CC Court, Commission issued to Thomas Stone, Samuel Hanson, William Hanson, & David Stone, Gent, to examine witnesses touching the bounds of a tract of land in CC called Coffers Chance, in the possession of Matthew Coffer. The petition for Commission was dated the 9th day Jun [last] at which Court, Matthew Coffer preferred his petition in writing to this Court before Gustavus Brown, Gent, & his Associates, CC Court Justices, for Commission as afd. The Commissioners are not related to the petitioner, contiguous proprietor, nor interested in sd land. Signed Jun 10, 1741 - Edmd Porteus, Clerk.
And now here, Samuel Hanson, William Hanson, & David Stone, return to this Court the Commission afd, together with the certificate and depositions, viz -
We certify that we met on the premises of Coffers Chance on Mar 8, 1741, and then and there, the above depositions were taken by us. Signed - SHanson, Wm Hanson, David Stone.
Capt, Matthew Barnes, age about 72, declares that about 16 years ago, he was present when John Coffer proved a marked hickory standing on the side of a valley, where the deponent now lays his hand, to be the 1st bound tree of a tract of land called Coffers Chance, which probate this deponent understood was taken by the then Sher. by order of the Provincial Court in a matter of controversy between William Hoskins and Daniel Bryan relating to a tract of land called St. Bridgets.
Colo. Robert Hanson, age about 62, says that 15-16 years ago, he heard John Coffer being sworn on a resurvey of a tract of land called St. Bridgets, then in controversy between William Hoskins and Daniel Bryan, declares that his mother showed him a bounded hickory standing on the side of a valley, and said to him, boy, this is the beginning tree of thy land, which tree is the same tree mentioned in Capt. Matthew Barns' deposition.
Francis Adams, age about 64, declares that a bounded white oak near a fork of Logg Swamp whereon he now lays his hand, was showed him by John Coffer to be a bounded tree of the sd coffer's land.

Charles County Maryland Land Record Liber X#2, 1743-1744; Page 162. At the request of Elizabeth Hanson and Mary Cunninghame, the following deed was recorded on Sep [sic] 30, 1744.
Nov 15, 1744 from Robert Hanson of CC, Gent, and Violetta, his wife, to Elizabeth Hanson and Mary Cunninghame, daughter[s] of the said Violetta Hanson. Mr. William Hoskins, late of CC, died intestate, leaving Violetta, his widow, wife of the afd Robert Hanson, and 2 daughters /to wit/ the afd Eliza who after intermarried with a certain Walter Hanson, and the afd Mary who intermarried with a certain John Cunninghame. At the time of his death, the afd William Hoskins owned a tract of land in CC called Friendship, by which means one third part of the afd tract of land (after the death of sd William Hoskins) became the property of Violetta as her right of dower. Now this deed witnesses that Robert Hanson and Violetta, his wife, for the natural love and affection which they have for the afd Elizabeth Hanson and Mary Cunninghame and for 5 shillings sterling and for other good causes, have given Elizabeth and Mary all the title and claim that they have to the third part of the afd tract of land. Signed - Robt Hanson, Violetta Hanson. Wit - Allen Davis, Richard Harrison.
