    • === Research Notes from Linda Reno

You have the wife of George Noe as Rebecca Hulse. You have assigned no parents to her and give no reason for this belief. I have only one girl named Rebecca Hulse and she married John Moran.

In trying to locate the parents of Rebecca, wife of George Noe, I decided to try to track down the ownership of “Mount Organ” mentioned below:

Provincial Court Land Records, 1749-1756, Volume 701, Page 565 (Mike Marshall's page): 4/16/1754: This Indenture made this Sixteenth Day of April in the Year of Our Lord one thousand seven hundred and fifty four between George Noe, Senior of S.t Marys County in the Province of Maryland Planter and Rebecca, his Wife and George Noe jun of the said County and Province Planter, Son and heir of them the said George Noe Senior and Rebecca his Wife of the one part and John Chesley of the same County and Province Merchant of the other part.

Witnesseth that the said George Noe, Senior and Rebecca his Wife and George Noe jun for and in Consideration of the Several Sums of Five Shillings Current Money to them Severally in hand paid by the said John Chesley at or before the ensealing and Delivery of these presents the Receipt whereof they and each of them hereby acknowledge have Granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and Sell unto the said John Chesley all that Tract or Parcell of Plantable Land Scituate lying and being in Baltimore County in the Province afsd called Mount Organ containing three hundred and Fifty Acres of Land and the Revertion and Revertions Remainder & Remainders Rents Issues and Profits thereof and of Every part thereof, etc., etc.

May 11, 1707: Matthew Organ of Baltimore Co Md, conveyed 350 acres Mount Organ to Christopher Randall of Baltimore Co, planter; Organ’s wife Catherine consents. (Md. Genealogical Society Bulletin, 1989).

August 31, 1717: Deed from Christopher Randall of Baltimore Co. to John Newman of Baltimore Co. “Mount Organ”, 350 ac., for 10,000 lbs. tobacco. Ann Randall waived dower. (PG Co. Deeds, TR, No. A, Page 499).

Will of John Newman, Page Co., 3/19/1732-11/7/1733. Wife, Rebecca, exec., all estate while she remains unmarried. At her death estate to daughter Rebecca and her heirs.

May 14, 1735: Deed from Rebecca Newman, widow and rettee (can’t find the meaning of this word) of John Newman, to John Simkin of Page Co., for 100 ac. of “Mount Organ” for 12 lbs. sterling paid by Simkin to John Newman before Newman’s death. (PG Co. Deeds, HWS, No. M, Page 216).

May 18, 1735: Deed from Rebecca Newman, widow and rettee of John Newman to Charles Motterby of Page Co., barber for and in consideration of Motterby maintaining Rebecca during her life and when she dies to bury her in a decent manner and payment of her debts, “Mt. Organ”, 250 acres, which remains now her right after 100 acres conveyed to John Simkin. She also conveyed to Motterby cattle, hogs, horses and household stuff. (PG. Co. Deeds, HWS, No. M, Page 219).

NOTE: This might be the same John and Rebecca Newman named in the will of John Bearcroft of SMC, July 4, 1693.
Will of John Barecroft 7/4/1693; 7/20/1693, St. Mary's Co. Godsons: John, son of Col. Nehemiah Blackistone; William Goldsmith, son-in-law of Richard Clouds; William, son of Samuel Cookseley (Cooksey?). To: John Cottrell; Jeffrey Cole; Jane, wife of Thomas Williams; Abraham Price; Abraham Tennison; Mary Taylor, dau. of Mary Price; Kenelm Cheseldine; Madam Susan Blackistone, wife of Col. Blackistone afsd.; Sarah, wife of Michael Curtis; and to Clement Hill--personality. To: Elizabeth Newman, dau. of John Newman, at age 16 "Worchester". To: John Newman, son of John Newman, "Burress' Gift", Calvert Co. Aforesaid children--Elizabeth and John Newman, son and dau. of John and Rebecca Newman to be brought up Protestants. To: Brother, Stephen personal property in England and any estate left testator by his father and mother, except 50 lbs. which is bequeathed to Parish of St. Ellinor's in Worchester City, England. Execs: John and Rebecca Newman, afsd. Overseers: Clement Haly, John Rose, William Escott, Chris. Knight, George Perry, William Heather. (Maryland Calendar of Wills).

3/14/1738: Charles Motherby witnessed the will of John Simkins, Baltimore Co. (Will attached). Two daughters got 50 ac. each of “Organ’s Mount.”

May 30, 1742: Admin. accts. of John Simpkin, Baltimore Co. Admx., Priscilla Atbierby, wife of Charles Atbierby, also Charles Motherby.

So….how did the property include 350 acres again by 1754?

At this point, I think Rebecca Newman, daughter of John, is the girl who married George Noe.

I found no deeds in Baltimore Co. for George Noe. I’m going now to see if I find anything on John Chesley disposing of the land.

Comment: Peter is not on the 1780-1782 lists. Rebecca
Noe, ancient, is on these lists continuously from 1779-1785,
that is she is also shown in the years 1780-1782 when Peter is not.
Each year's list is a short list of 10-15 names. Peter
and Rebecca are separately Ilamed on these lists. This is
significant because there are many entrles on these lists
such as "John Jones and wife," that is, husband and wife
were not separately listed as are Peter and Rebecca. From
this we would conclude that Peter and Rebecca were not married
      to each other.
Peter and Rebecca are the only known Noes in Amherst Co.
durIng the period 1779-1785 but other Noes had been there
      earlier
