James James died in Warren county, Kentucky and left a will dated February 4, 1826 as follows:

Warren Co. KY Will Book C, page 296:
The nuncupative will of James James deceased made at his place of residence in Warren county during his last illness in presence of Reuben Johnston, Thornton J. Smith, and Patsy Smith who were called upon by the said James James deceased to bear witness that he wished the following distribution of his property to be made ...

commited to writing this 8th day of Feby 1826 and 4th day after the death of the testator ...
      .
The children of James James and Ruth are:

      1. Samuel James married Martha "Patsy" Snead/Sneed in Franklin county, Virginia in April 1791. Samuel died 1806 in Barren county, Kentucky.

      2. Mary "Polly" James married her first cousin, Peyton Smith son of Elizabeth James and William Smith in 1805 in Franklin county, Virginia. Polly died after 1840 in Barren county, Kentucky.

      3. Fielding James married Sally Custer in 1813 in Barren county, Kentucky and died 1816 in Barren county, Kentucky.

      4. Mildred James married John R Karr in Warren county, Kentucky in 1808. Nothing further is known about Mildred after the 1810 census in Barren county, Kentucky.

It is James James and his daughter Mildred who are named in the 1803 will of James's mother, Mildred James, in Orange county, Virginia. Again, Wingfield in his book mistakenly attributes this to be "James Spencer James," and this information is often cited as belonging with Spencer James.
