      1729-1748 Stafford County, Virginia Will Book M; [Antient Press]; Page 297-298 In the Name of God Amen this day of October the 20th 1740 CHARLES GRIGSBY in County of Stafford being Sick but in perfect mind I doe ordaine this my last will and Testament. I give Soul into hands of God .. my body I recommend to the earth .. at discretion of my Executors That is to say my Loving wife SARAH GRIGSBY and my son JAMES GRIGSBY .. I give in this manner following
      Item I give my son James Grigsby Ninty acres of land beginning at the mouth of Esards branch and running up the main branch of pazpertansey to JAMES GRIGSBY SENR. Land and running northerly to Capt. FOWKE line.
      Item I give to my loving wife Sarah Grigsby Ninty acres of land beginning at the branch joyning to James Grigsby Senr. Land running northerly to Capt. Fowke land and after her decease to return to my son CHARLES GRIGSBY.
      Item I give to my son JOHN GRIGSBY the remainer part of my at his return and if he not returing I give it to my son WILKERSON GRIGSEY.
      Item I give to the child my wife know goes with let it be son or daughter one Negro man named James and if it come not to perfection I give it to my son Charles Grigsby.
      Item I give to my son ELISHA GRIGSBY one negro man named Robin. Item I leave them in the care of my wife Sarah Grigsby the said Negroes until the said child shall come to the age of 18 and if it dies the said James to return to my son Charles and Robin to my Son Elisha Grigsby as before mentioned when there coming to the age of 18.
      Item I give to my daughter MARGRET SMITH half a crown. Item I give to my daughter ROSE SPISER half a crown.
      Item I give my daughter BARBARY RUNNOLLS half a crown.
      Item I give my daughter PRISELLA GRIGSBY my chest and 1 Ew and a cow and calf and a young main at day of marriage or at age of 18.
      Item I give my daughter RACHEL GRIGSBY one Ewe and a Cow and calf at day of marriage or at age 18.
      Item I give to my son Charles Grigsby a young horse called Tobo. Item I give to my son Wilkerson Grigsby a young black horse called Shaver.
      Item I give to my wife Sarah Grigsby 3 mairs and a colt and all the

Item I give to my Son JOHN GRIGSBY one of my best hogs that is in the pen & the other three that is in the pen and three running at large I give to my Son MOSES GRIGSBY for the maintenance of his Brother THOMAS GRIGSBY and likewise I give him all my pewter & some Cloth to make him a waist-coat & some coarse Linnen to make him four Shirts & white Linnen for one and likewise T give him five head of Cattle and likewise I give him two feather beds & furniture and all my water vessells. Item I give my son AARON GRIGSBY a Sorrel Horse branded I and likewise I give him one Chest .. set my hand ..

      King George and Parish of Brunswick .. give unto my son JOHN OWENS one negro boy and one Feather bed that he now lies upon and the Furniture belonging to it .. unto my Daughter SARAH GRIGSBY one Oval Table .. leave my land & negroes and all other personal estate to my beloved wife MARY OWENS during her life and after her decease .. to be sold and Equally divided amongst the rest of my five sons and three daughters Vizt. JOSHUA, RICHARD, JEREMIAH, AARON and WILLIAM OWENS, SARAH GRIGSBY, MARY BERRY and LETTICE WHITE .. further ordain my loving wife and my son in law WILLIAM GRIGSBY be my two Executors .. this 22d

      THIS INDENTURE made the 2d. day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & seventy seven Between WILLIAM GRIGSBY of Parish of Brunswick and County of King George and his Son, HORATIO GRIGSBY, of the same Parish and County aforesaid; Witnesseth that WILLIAM GRIGSBY in consideration of the sum of five shillings current money of Virginia to him in hand paid by HORATIO GRIGSBY, his Son, has bargained and sold unto HORATIO GRIGSBY, his Son, one certain parcel of land situate in the Parish & County aforesd, containing by estimation Fifty acres be the same more or less bounded by the Lands of MICHAEL WALLACE and ROSE DADE lying all of it of the North side of the Ditch & Branch of ( ) SWAMP with all its rights members and appurtenances; To have and to hold the fifty acres of land with appurtenances unto HORATIO GRIGSBY his heirs; And WILLIAM GRIGSBY for himself his heirs will warrant and defend the Land and premises unto HORATIO GRIGSBY his Son, his heirs against the claim of all manner of persons; In Witness whereof the sd. WILLIAM GRIGSBY have hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year first above written
