I am working on the Clift family starting about 1743 King George Co, Va. My oldest verified relative is Joseph Clift m Joyce Barrett (maybe Bennett) June 22, 1743 St Paul's Parish, Stafford Co, Va. per that register.
I believe she was the widow of Richard Barrett and was Joyce Duncomb when she married him Sept 21, 1729, per LDS records ( they list him as Bennett and her as Jayce)
I noted your Joyce Duncumb and wondered about a connection. There are many Ellis, Clift, Mason, Duncans on my register from St. Pauls and they were relatively close to Charles Co. A group of Clifts are from Talbot Co, Md. I imagine you know the first few pages of the register are missing and I find very little to put the Clifts in order.
Do you have any more on them?
Thanks. I am at a wall.

George Roberts hath agreed to purchase of Mrs. Frances Clift 400 acres whereon Frances Clift now liveth which was bequeathed to Frances Clift by John Kirk her former husband by his last will and testament recorded in the County Court of Stafford, for which George Roberts is to pay £100 current money. Joseph Kirk being eldest son and heir at law as well of John Kirk, deceased, as of Frances Clift, and being satisfied that it was the design of his deceased father that his mother should enjoy the 400 acres forever and also being sensible of the necessity his mother is under to dispose of the land for the payment of her debts and support of her family and there being some doubts whether Frances Clift hath an absolute right to convey the fee simple estate, Joseph Kirk nor his heirs shall not demand the 400 acres.
