I'm not really sure where I got the year 1729 from and he was probably born earlier. The year came from either: Early Families of So. MD, Vol. 5 (Jordan) or Descendants of William Smute by Steve Smoot: smoots@prodigy dot net, 11/3/1998. My notes for John Smoot, b. 1740, son of Samuel come only from Steve Smoot. I have no other notes under him. What have you got?

Hi Linda, have been going around and around on this one these last few hours.

If Samuel Smoote was born 1729 then he is not the father of John Smoote born 1740.

Is there something to pin him down to this particular father? or are the dates off 10 years? There are a couple other John Smoote's that could work.

      2. ELIZABETH3 DAVIS (EDWARD (ELDER)2, EDWARD1) was born Bef. 1725 in Charles County, Maryland, and died Aft. 1764 in Bryantown, Charles County, Maryland. She married SAMUEL SMOOT Bet. 1749 - 1758 in Charles County, Maryland, son of THOMAS SMOOT and ABAGAIL. He was born 1729 in Charles County, Maryland, and died 1792 in Bryantown, Charles County, Maryland.

Children of ELIZABETH DAVIS and SAMUEL SMOOT are:

      i. JOHN4 SMOOT, b. 1740, Charles County, Maryland; d. 1797, Fauquier County, Virginia; m. THOMASINE, Abt. 1760; b. Bet. 1740 - 1745.

hi, I'm inclined to think John is the son of Samuel as Thomas also went to Fauquier County, Virginia for a while.

however, I think the dates should be shifted back 10 years on both Samuel (Abt. 1719) and Elizabeth Davis (Abt. 1723) Smoote.

I use a standard rule of thumb on forecasting dates...16yrs for girls and 20 for guys. Do not have any backup to prove John's 1740 birthdate...but it seems the most logical right now in absence of land or probate records
