THIS INDENTURE made the 3rd day of May in the second yeare of the Reigne of our most Gracious Sovereigne Lord James the second by the Grace of God of England &c. ano Dom 1687 Between KATHARINE CLAYBURNE, Widow of WM. CLAYBURNE JUNR., late of the Parish of St. Johns in PAMONKY NECK in the County of NEW KENT deced, as well for and in behalf of her self as of her Son and heire apparrent, WILLIAM CLAYBURNE, who hath given Securitie by his Guardin and Unkle, JOHN CLAYBURNs Bond for his Confirmacon of this present Deed of Sale from him and his heires & when he attaines to the age of One and Twenty yeares being of the one part and WILLIAM COVINGTON of the Parish of Farnham in the County of Rappa: Virginia aforesd., Plantr,, of the other part Witnesseth that the sd KATHARINE CLAYBURNE for the value of Fifty pounds Sterling money paid by Obligation for the same to JOHN CLAYBURNE to and for the only proper benefitt and behoofe of my sd Son, WILLIAM CLAYBURNE, by the sd WM. COVINGTON hath granted and confirmed unto the sd WILLIAM COVINGTON his heires and assignes forever all that Plantation and premisses conteyning Two hundred and fifty acers being in the Parish of Farnham in the County of Rappa: aforesd commonly called or knowne by the name of BESTLAND and now is or of late in the Tenure or occupacon of STEPHEN BENBRIDGE and bounding as followeth (to vitt) North upon OLD ASSUAMANSCOCK FOOT PATH, West upon the land of JOHN FORTH, South upon the MAINE SWAMP and East upon the land of WM. COVINGTON and THO: HOWERTON, Together with all and singular the houses buildings stables orchards gardens profitts and appurtinances whatsoever to the sd land and premisses belonging To have and to hold the sd Plantation to the sd WILLIAM COVINGTON his heires and the sd CATHARINE CLAYBURNE for the consideration abovesd. the sd Premisses and every part thereof unto the sd WILLIAM COVINGTON against all persons whatsoever claiming any right of or to the same and CATHARINE CLAYBURNE doth further grant that she hath full power in the Law to sell the same and will at all times dureing the space of seven yeares next coming upon the reasonable request cost and charges of sd WM. COVINGTON, and execute or cause to be done all further conveyances of what kind for the more perfect assuring of the sd confirming of the sd granted Plantacon and every part thereof In Witness the sd parties their hands and seales interchangably have putt the day and year first above written

Sealed and delivered and full quiet and peaceable possession state and seizin of and in the within mentioned messuage or tenements in the name of all the premisses within written was first taken by JOHN CLAYBURNE and imediately thereupon delivered to WM. COVINGTON by virtue of a Letter of Attorney from the within named CATHARINE CLAYBURNE bearing date with these presents and to the purposes in the within Indenture expressed in the presents of

KNOW ALL MEN by these presents that I CATHARINE CLAYBURNE, Widdow of Colo. WM. CLAYBURNE, late of the County of NEW KENT deced, do hereby appoint and fully impower my loving Brother, JOHN CLAYBURNE, of the County aforesd. Gent. my true and lawful! Attorney in my name to give possession to WM. COVINGTON of Rappa: County, Plantr., in a certain Plantation being in sd County of Rappa: as by a certaine Deed under my hand and seale bearing even date with these presents relation being had may appeare and to deliver the dame into the possession of the sd WILLIAM COVINGTON his heires at the next Court to be held for the County of Rappa: aforesd. on the South side of the River, giveing my sd Attorney as full power to do what legally ought by me to be performed therein for the confirmacon in as full manner as if I myselfe were personally present in my own proper person and what my sd Attorney shall lawfull do therein I do confirme In Witness whereof I have sett my hand and seale May the 3rd Ano 1687 Signed Sealed and delivered in the prsence of us
