      GAITHER, BASIL. Basil Gaither, son of Edward and Eleanor Gaither,
      was born circa 1751 in Frederick County, Maryland, and served as
      a Captain in the Revolutionary War. He married Margaret Watkins,
      daughter of Nicholas Watkins and Arianna Worthington, and they
      had 7 children: Walter Gaither, Nathan Gaither, Basil Gaither,
      Gassaway Gaither, Eleanor Gaither, Betsy Gaither, and Nicholas
      Gaither. Basil was perhaps the first of his brother to settle in
      Rowan County, North Carolina circa 1780. He died testate in Rowan
      County in 1803 (Ref: HWN I-111).

Oct 10, 1778 from Basil Gaither of M, planter, to Richard Burgess of Anne Arundel County, planter, for 528 £, part of a tract of land called The Resurvey on Mitchels Range, lying in M, containing and now laid out for about 150 acres. Signed - Basil Gaither. Wit - Edwd Burgess*, Henry Gaither*. Margret, the wife of the sd Basil Gaither, relinquished her right of dower to the within mentioned land. Recorded Feb 20, 1779.
