      Richmond County Court 7th of September 1704
      .....the aforenamed Indians to the Plantation of the said JOHN ROWLEY, and when they came to the Plantation of the said JOHN ROWLEY, the said Indians sate downe and Bearded Jack, old Mr. Thomas, Tom Antony, Jack ye Fidler and Long Tom painted themselves, and the aforesaid old Mr. Thomas said to the other Indians, lett us go to the House and gett som victuales, and when they came to the House, JOHN ROWLEY was in the Loft and two women and a girle were in the Lower Roome, and old Mr. Thomas asked the said JOHN ROWLEY to come downe and pipe it. Ye sd JOHN ROWLEY came downe and the sd old Mr. Thomas shook hands with him and asked him how he did and whilst the said old Thomas talked with the said JOHN ROWLEY, Tom Antony held the said JOHN ROWLEY and old Thomas struck him with his Tomahawk and Knockt him downe, and Quasko Hewks asked old Mr. Thomas why he killed ye English: man and then the said old Mr. Thomas runn after the said Quasko Hewks wth: his Tomahawk talking Indian -wch: he did not understand and the said Quasko Hewks runn away from him and after they had knocked the said JOHN ROWLEY downe the said two women runn away and Bearded Jack and Jack the Fidler runn after them, and Jack the Fidler knock't the young woman downe and skinned her head, and Bearded Jack knockt. the old woman downe and skinned her head, and Jack the Fidler took the Child and said he loved Children and held the Child betweenr his leggs and stuck him like a pigg, thrusting his knife in at one eare and out the other, And that old Mr. Thomas after they had killed the two women and the Child said, come lett us go into the House and Tooke for some goods, and they, the said Tom and Quasko went away.

      (Old) Rappahannock County Deed Book 1682-1686
      To all Christian People to whom this present writing shall com I Francis Hale of Rappa county in the Collony of Virginia, Planter, sendeth Greeting in our Lord God this tenth day of September in the year of our Lord One thousand six hundred eighty four and in the thirtyeth & sixth years of the Reigne of our Sovereigne King Charles the Second. Now know ye that I the said Francis HALE for the sum of Two thousand fivee hundred pounds of Tobacco & cask in hand paid by Stephen Fewell of the aforesaid County & Colony. Planter have granted unto him the Said Stephen Feuell his heires forever one tract of land conteying one hundred acres being in the aforesaid County of Rappa; on the North side of the River being part of a dividend contenying Thirteen hundred acres bought of Capt wm Haybard by Francis Hale after Pattented in the said Hales own name; The said tract butted and bounded as followeth beginning at Poplar Swamp at Pighickory in the line of JOHN ROWLEY along the sd Rouleys line Eastward to a white Oake standing by a great Poplar, from thence to an Ash that stands upon the side of a deep gully being a corner tree of Mr Hugh Williams line & so long the said Williams line south to a branch that leased West to the Poplar Swamp Runn and up the said Runn Northerly to the first mentioned Pighickory together with all houses gardens woods profits whatsoever to have and to hold the said land to him the said Stephen Feuell his heirs forever. And I the said Francis Hale do covenant to warrant & forever defend the said land from the claimes of any manner of persons whatsoever, he the said Stephen Fewell his heirs pay the yearly fee for the same due and payable to our Soverign Lord the King as Chief Lord of the Fee. That she this deponent is the reputed daughter of MARY HINSON and Heir to WILLIAM WOOD of Stafford County deceased and that about Twenty years ago She was saved by the Indians that committed the Murders at JOHN ROWLEY'S Plantation in a small time after the said Murder her Uncle WILLIAM WOOD carried this Deponent to the House of EVAN JONES and that she staid there till her Mother came from pensilvania and carried her down to James River and ffurther this Deponent saith not .. pursuant to an order of King George County Court dated the Second day of October 1725.       The deposition of MARY ROWLY aged about ffifty three years being first sworn Saith .. That ANN HINSON Daughter of MARY HINSON and now wife of JOHN HOPKINS is the same Girl that was saved by the Indians when they committed the Murders at JOHN ROWLEY'S PLANTATION and this Deponent further Saith that she was present when her Uncle WILLIAM WOOD made his Will and therein left the said ANN HINSON one hundred acres of land binding on the land of JOHN GREGSBY and that some time after this Deponent and her husband sent the said Ann word of the said Land being left her by her Uncle upon which she being at James River she returned again and further this Deponent Saith not. Pursuant to an order of King George County Court dated the Second day October 1725 this Deposition was taken before us this 26th October 1725.
