      Susanna Wilkins, born say 1683, was the servant of Richard Marsham on 10 December 1703 when she was presented by the Prince George's County court for having an illegitimate child, "the begetter thereof supposed to be an Ethiopian Dye or Couler." She confessed to having an illegitimate child but identified a white man named Henry Crumpton as the father. On 28 March 1705 the court agreed with Crumpton that both he and the mother had fair complexions and the child was a "Perfect Malatta." However, there was still some doubt, so the court ruled that her master should keep her and the child for twelve months and then deliver both up to court for further judgment [Court Record 1699-1705, 338, 358].

      Indenture made August 14, 1782; between Hoskins Hanson, Gentleman and his wife Catherine Hanson of Charles County, Maryland of one part and Notley Young, Gentleman of PGCo. Whereas Richard Marsham by his last will and testament bearing date April 14, 1713 did devise unto his five grandchildren; Samuel Queen, Marsham Queen, William Queen, Catherine Queen and Marsham Queen a tract called the "Inclosure" which the said Marsham bought of Col. Ninian Beall containing 1040 acres; and whereas William Queen died w/o issue and Catherine Queen married William Matthews Thompson and had issue, Richard Thompson her eldest son and heir at law who had issue, the aforesaid Catherine Hanson party to these presents his only child, the said child, the said Catherine Queen after the death of William Matthews Thompson intermarried with Walter Hanson who by virtue of the intermarriage claimed the part of the "Inclosure" willed to the said Catherine Queen during his natural life and as tenant heretofore sold and conveyed his estate to John Shercliff and the said Hoskins Hanson and Catherine Hanson intending for valuable consideration to vest the said Notley Young with an estate in fee simple; therefore in consideration of 551 pounds current specie paid by Notley Young and for other good causes and considerations them thereunto moving have sold the aforesaid tract of land containing 275 ½ acres and beginning at a bounded hickory the westernmost corner boundary of the "Grange" and the beginning of "Meeirs?" and a dividing boundary between Samuel Queen and Walter Hanson, and bounded by John Tucker's cornfield, a spring that runs into Goose Creek, the southwest corner of "Inclosure" containing 456 acres heretofore sold by Col. Ninian Beall to Benjamin Haddock.
