John Start, a Talbot County planter, wrote his will on August 20, 1717. John was a landowner in his own right, and he had married well. His wife was Judith Woolman, a daughter of the well-to-do and influential Richard Woolman, one of the first justices of Talbot County. The Woolmans had ties of marriage or friendship to other well-known Eastern Shore families, the Gibsons, the Tilghmans, and (yes!) the Lloyds.
