      I, James Maddocke of CC being weak of body but of perfect mind and memory
      To John Maddocke and Mary Maddocke my two children by last marriage, negroes, Charity, Jane, Minty, Leonard, Benjamin, Dackearine, Sam and Cate, together with the remaining part of their mothers estate now in possession of their grandmother Priscilla Waters.
      To son John Maddocke, already bequeath, first choice of my horses together with my saddle and bridle.
      To daughter Elizabeth Maddocke, one shilling.
      To daughter Charity Cooksey, one shilling
      To children, James, Ignatius, Nathan, Ann and Sarah all the remaining part of my estate.
      It is my desire that my son Nathan Maddocke shall have the use and benefit of my son John Maddocke property until he arrives at the age of twenty five years old providing my son Nathan give him a genteel maintenance and two year schooling.

Jun 24, 1784 from Robert Rogers of CC and Joanna, his wife (one of the coheirs of Notley Warren) to Thomas Hungerford of CC, for and in consideration of the exchange of lands and for 20 shillings, all that parcel of land in CC, being one quarter part of 298 acres (undivided) the sd Notley Warren died possessed of known by the name of Frailty, containing about 74-1/4 acres; and also all the right, of dower of Sarah Maddocke, wife of James Maddocke, to the sd 298 acres of land, which the sd Robert Rogers purchased of the sd James Maddocke, as will appear by a [certain] CC deed. If, by any unforeseen accident, it should happen that the afd granted land is taken away from sd Thomas Hungerford, after a lawful defence of the same, then the lands granted by sd Thomas Hungerford in exchange for the above granted lands, by virtue of a deed dated today, shall return to sd Thomas Hungerford, upon his paying to sd Robert Rogers & Joanna, his wife, the sum of money expressed in the consideration. I, James Maddocke son of Notley, Gaugelin [Goochland] County, Virginia, lawful heir of Notley Madocke of CC, decd, for divers good reasons, have appointed my faithful friend, Robert Rogers of CC, to be any true and lawful atty, agent, and commissioner, to recover all such debts, duties, fees, rents, hires, yearly payments, slaves, merchandise, goods, chattels, legacies, real and personal property, land and tenements of my decd father, Notley Madocke of CC, and to take into his keeping and possession, all the real and personal property recovered by my right as lawful heir as afd, and to represent me in any Court, and to pay any money and tobacco due from me to any persons.       Charles County Land Records 1790-1792; Liber K#4; Page 474. Aug 21, 1792 from James Simms, Sheriff of CC, to Alexander Hamilton of Prince Georges County. Richard Barnes, executor of Abraham Barnes did, in CC Court, at Mar Term 1792, obtain judgment against Notley Maddocke and Henry Maddox, garnishees of James Maddocke, for 559 £16 shillings and 11 pence 1 farthing debt and 968.8 lbs of tobacco cost of suit, upon which judgment a writ of fieri facias issued out of sd Court, commanding the CC Sheriff to levy of the goods and chattels, righis and credits, lands and tenements of sd James Maddocke to discharge the above judgment, whereupon sd Simms entered upon about 510 acres, being a tract of land called the Cool Springs, lying in CC, as by the patent thereof more fully appears, and took possession of sd land, as the estate of sd James Maddocke, condemned in the hands of sd garnishees against whom judgment was obtained. The writ was returnable on the 3rd Monday in Aug, 1792. Cool Springs was, on Aug 4, 1792, exposed to sale, and sd Hamilton, the highest bidder, for 129 £, became the purchaser.
