      Feb. 22, 1765 - Benajah Dement, heir at law, was reported as out of the Province of Maryland when his father William Dement's will was probated in Charles Co., Md.

      May 22, 1765 - Benajah Dement m. Alice/Alyess Barnett on May 22, 1765 in Loudoun Co., Va.

      Jan. 12, 1780 - Benajah Dement, of Ohio Co., Va., farmer, appoints my trusted friend, Charles Howard, farmer, in Baltimore Co., Md., my lawful attorney and in my name to make over and deliver unto Samuel Mummy of Baltimore Co., Md., blacksmith, a certain tract of land known by the name of "Dements Enlargement" containing and laid out for 347 acres, it laying and being in Charles Co., Md., and likewise a small tract of land [not named] containing 13 acres with a mill set on it laying at the Beaver Dams on Piles Creek laying in the county aforesaid. I have received at the time of sealing and delivering this power of attorney of the aforesaid Samuel Mummy the sum of 6,000 pounds continental currency, the receipt of which I acknowledge and myself therewith fully and entirely contented and satisfied. Signed by Benajah Dement in Ohio Co., Va. Witnesses Caleb Owings, [brother] George Dement.

      Mar. 16, 1816 - The Ohio Co., Va. will of Benejah Dement, probated August term 1817, leaves:
      --to Ann Harding [relationship not stated, but dau.], 100 acres of land lying in Fairfield Co., Ohio, range 15, township 2, section 2, no. 34, in said section.
      --to my 4 daughters, viz., Elizabeth Finley, Mary Gilmore, Sarah Rodgers and Margaret Pickens, $50.00 each, the money to be made by renting the 5 fields and horse pasture and garden where I live, and the money due me from Joseph Whitton to be divided amongst them as they come due.
      --my son William Dement to live where he lives now and after the money is made by renting the land where I live now for his sisters and his mother is dead, he shall have all the land.
      --wife Aless Dement, executor, and to dispose of my movable property as she thinks best.

      Comment: The witness Henry Dement was Benajah's nephew, the son of his brother George. Ezekiel Rodgers was Benajah's son-in-law, the husband of his dau. Sarah Dement.

      Benajah Dement d. June 4, 1817 in West Liberty, Ohio Co., Va. [now W. Va.] Benajah's widow Alice d. Nov. 21, 1836 at the same place. They are buried in the Benajah Dement Farm Cemetery on Dement Cemetery Road, Wheeling, W. Va. Alice was born in Loudoun Co., Va. and was age 97 when she died.

Mar 15, 1781 from Samuel Mummey (Mummy) of Baltimore County, blacksmith, to John Cartwright Waters of CC, for 6233 S. and for divers good causes, part of a tract of land called Dements Enlargement, containing 192 acres in CC, and being formerly bequeathed by William Dement Sr decd unto William Dement and Walter Dement, each of whom died without lawful issue, by which means the afd tract of land became the right of Benajah Dement, heir at law to William Dement Sr afd. The afd Benajah Dement, by his letter of attorney in fact to Charles Howard of Baltimore County, farmer, dated Jan 12, 1780, conveyed to Samuel Mummy the land afd, bounded by the dividing line between John Cartwright Waters and James Waters, containing about 192 acres. Signed - Saml Mummy. Wit - James Waters, Stephen Moore, Jacob Myer. Rebeckah Mummy, wife of the sd Samuel Mummy, relinquished her right of dower to the lands within mentioned, before Geo. Lindengerger [sic] and Peter Shepherd. William Gibson, Clk Balta. Co, certified that George Lindenberger and Peter Shepherd, Gentlemen, are JPs of the County afd, Recorded Jul 15, 1781.

      I, Thomas Brooke Hodgkin, Clerk of the General Court Western Shore of Maryland, hereby certify that Samuel Mummey of Baltimore County this day lodged with me a power of attorney and deed for the conveyance of a tract of land called Dements Enlargement in CC from Benajah Dement to Samuel Mummy, to be recorded. Signed Mar 9, 1781 - Thos Brooke Hodgkin, Clk Gerd. Court.
      Ohio County [Virginia). Jan 8, 1780. Personally appeared before me, Zachariah Sprigg, one of the Commonwealth JPs, Jacob Pycatt [Pyatt] , William Corwing [Cowing] , and George. Humphry, and made oath that William Dement died in Dec, 1776 or Jan, 1777, and to our knowledge, he never was married.
