      TO ALL TO WHOM these presents shall Come know yethat Whereas I GEORGE BRENT of the County of STAFFORD did on the first day of November One thousand seven hundred and Fifty Four verbally give unto my Daughter CATHARINE DOUGLASS a Certain Negro woman slave named Nanny together with her future Increase and for as much as the said Negro hath since the first day of November 1754 bore three children Viz. Lettice, Betty & Charles and Whereas I have never executed any Deed of Gift for the said Negroe Nanny and being desirous that the said Negroe Nanny together with her future increase should be confirmed unto my Daughter CATHARINE DOUGLASS I do by these presents in consideration of the Natural love and affection I have unto my Daughter CATHARINE DOUGLASS give the said Nanny together with her three children and her and their future increase unto my said Daughter CATHARINE and defend said Negros against the claim of every person whatsoever. Witness my hand & Seal this first day of February One thousand seven hundred & Sixty Three before
