Will of John Brockman of St. Thomas's Parish in Orange County in Virginia, being very unhealthy, dated 8 Aug. 1755.
Unto my well beloved wife Mary Brockman during her widowhood 150 acres whereon I live. Likewise one large looking glass. Unto my well beloved son Samuel Brockman 100 acres in Louisa County joining Major John Stark's line, being part of a tract which I purchased of Philip Elliott. If the child my wife Mary Brockman is now with child with should be a boy, I give the remainder part of the said tract to him, but if it should not be a boy, that part of the land should be sold to the highest bidder.
To my son Samuel Brockman all by blacksmith's tools, upon proviso he dos what smiths work his mother shall have need of while she remains a widow.
To my well beloved son John Brockman 100 acres in Orange County which I purchased of Thomas Cook. To my well beloved son William Brockman 200 acres in Orange County which I purchased of William Oaks. To my well beloved son Joseph Brockman the sand 150 acres where I now live after my wife's decease or if she should alter her life by marriage.
To my well beloved daughter Susan Atkins one feather bed and one pair of sheets.
To my well beloved daughter Sarah Brockman one feather bed and one pair of sheets, at age of eighteen of at the day of marriage.
To my well beloved daughter Elizabeth Brockman one feather bed and one pair of sheets at the age of eighteen or at the day of marriage.
To my well beloved daughter Hannah Brockman one feather bed and one pair of sheets at the age of eighteen or at the day of marriage.

All other estate to my wife Mary Brockman during her widowhood or life and then to be equally divided among all my children then alive, or if any of my children be then dead leaving any heirs, the said heir to have their part.

Wit: Roger Bell, Saml. (B) Brockman jur. 22 April 1756. Presented into Court by Mary Brockman, widow, and Samuel Brockman. The said Samuel being heir at law to the decedent declares his consent and approbation to the proving of said will.
Proved by Roger Bell and Saml. Brockman jur. Executors with John Wisdom and Reuben Harris their securities entered into bond in the sum of £200 current money.

This Indenture made this-day of -- in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy-nine, between Samuel Brockman of Orange County and William Brockman of Albemarle of the one part, and John White of Albemarle County of the other part, witnesseth, that the said Samuel and William Brockman for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and ten pounds current money to them in hand paid hy the said John White, the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge, do give, grant, bargain and sell to the said John White and his heirs and assigns one parcel of land in the County of Albemarle, containing by estimation three hundred and fifty acres, be the same more or less, and bounded as followeth: Beginning at Stephen English's corner pointers in Benjamin Hensley's line, etc, to near a branch etc, to William Maales white oak, etc, back to Stephen English's corner pointers, etc, thence to the first station "which said land was willed to the said Samuel and ’William Brockman by their father Samuel Brockman, dec'd" together with all the appurtenances, etc. to have and to hold, etc. to the said John White and his heirs, etc. In witness whereof the said Samuel and William Brockman have hereunto subscribed their names and affixed their seals on the day and year above written.
