      Samuel to Graves Indenture
      This indenture made this 19th day of October 1769 between Giles Samuel [and Elizabeth Samuel his wife] of the County of Caroline of the one part and Edward Graves of the County of Culpeper of the other part. Witnesseth that Giles Samuel in consideration of 45 pounds current money of Virginia in hand have sold to Edward Graves one tract of land lying in the County aforesaid on the branches of the Rapidan River and is that tract of land granted to John Powell by the Hon. Thomas Lord Fairfax by deed bearing date the 10th day of August 1750, containing 400 acres and bounded as follows; beginning at two dogwood trees and one hickory and Robert Key’s [Kay’s] line in running thence with the said Key’s line South 84° West 80 poles, thence South 70° West 30 poles, thence North 30° West 136 poles to a chestnut tree by the said Key’s old line, thence with the said line North 75° West 60 poles to an old corner chestnut, thence with another line of the said Key’s West 174 poles to one hickory, thence North up a mountain 168 poles, thence South 74° East 422 poles, crossing several spurs of the mountain to the top of a ridge, thence South 172 poles to the beginning. In witness whereof the said parties to these present indentures have interchangeably set their hands and fixed their seals the day and date above written.

      At a court held for the County of Culpeper Thursday the 19th day of October 1769 this indenture of feoffment from Giles Samuel to Edward Graves together with the memorandum and receipt endorsed was acknowledged by the said Giles and ordered to be recorded.
