Arnold, Decd., lived, and devised by him to his son, Wm., etc. Witnesses, Jno. Daniel, Thos. Coleman, jr.; Wm. Phillips, Wm. Pain, Wm. Trigg. Novr. 20, 1777.

      THIS INDENTURE made this 4th day of August one thousand seven hundred & Eighty nine Between HENRY PENDLETON SENR. of County of Culpeper of one part and HENRY PENDLETON JUNR. (his Son) of County of ORANGE & EDWARD PENDLETON, Son of said HENRY PENDLETON SENR. of County of SPOTSYLVANIA of other part; Witnesseth that HENRY PENDLETON SENR. as well for the natural love & affection which he beareth towards his said Sons, HENRY &EDWARD, as for the sum of Five shillings each by them to him in hand paid, by these presents doth give & confirm unto said HENRY PENDLETON JUNR. and to his heirs the following slaves (to wit), one Negroe man Bliley, one Negroe woman Rachel & her Son, Charles. & one Negroe Lad George; also doth give & confirm unto his Son, EDWARD PENDLETON & his heirs the following slaves (to wit). one Negroe man jack, one ditto Peter, one woman Doll & her Daughter Jude, which said slaves with their future increase said HENRY PENDLETON doth warrant & defend unto his said Sons their heirs against any person. In Witness whereof the said HENRY PENDLETON hath hereunto set his hand & seal this day & year foresaid.
      N. B. The said HENRY PENDLETON is to retain the use of the above mentd. slaves until! the 25th day of Decr. 1790.
