      GAITHER, BENJAMIN. Benjamin Gaither, son of Edward and Eleanor
      Gaither, was born circa 1755 in Frederick County, Maryland, and
      served as a Lieutenant in the Revolutionary War. He married
      Elizabeth Watkins, daughter of Nicholas Watkins and Arianna
      Worthington, and they had 10 children: Thomas Gaither, Johnsey
      Gaither, Beale Gaither, Brice Gaither, Basil Gaither, Margaret
      Howard, Eleanor Parker, Aria Parker, Harriet Howard, and Sally
      Gaither. Towards the end of the war he moved to Rowan County,
      North Carolina and also served in that State. Benjamin died
      testate in 1803 (Ref: HWN I-114, 115).

      Montgomery County Land Records, 1777-1781; Liber A1, Page 316. Jul 13, 1779 from Benjamin Gaither, son of Edward, of M, to Betsey Davis of M. Whereas a certain Benjamin Gaither, late of Anne Arundel County, decd, by his will dated about Mar 26, 1741, bequeathed to his son, Edward Gaither, 350 acres, being part of a tract called Benjamins Lott, and whereas the sd Edward Gaither conveyed part of the sd land to Henry Gaither, his brother, by deed, said to contain 200 acres, and whereas the sd Betsey Davis contracted with the sd Edward Gaither, in his lifetime, for all his remaining part of the sd land so devised as afd, being about 150 acres, and also one other tract of land called Gaithers Medow, said to contain 73 acres, and also part of one other tract of land called the Resurvey on Gaithers Purchase. But before the sd lands were conveyed, the sd Edward Gaither died. Now therefore this deed witnesses that the sd Benjamin Gaither, son and heir at law to the sd Edward Gaither, for 653 £10 shillings, grants to the sd Betsey Davis, all that sd 150 acres of land part of Benjamins Lot, and Gaithers Medow, lying in M, standing near the head of a dry marsh that descends into Snowdens River near John Dorsey's Mill, containing and laid out for about 73 acres; and also the sd part of a tract of land called the Resurvey on Gaithers Purchase, beginning at the original beginning tree of Gaithers Purchase, containing about 45 acres. Signed - Benja Gaither. Wit - Edwd Burgess*, George Cullom*. Elizabeth, wife of the within named Benjamin Gaither, son of Edward, relinquished her right of dower to the within mentioned land. Oct 29, 1779 from Benjamin Gaither (son of Edward) of M, to John Musgrove of M, for 3080 £, a certain tract of land called Gaithers Purchase, lying in M, bounded by a tract of land called Benjamins Lott, containing about 100 acres. Also a certain part of a tract of land thereunto adjoining called Whats Left, bounded by Henry Gaither's part of sd tract, containing about 54 acres. Signed - Benjn Gaither. Wit - Edwd Burgess*, George Cullom*. Elizabeth, the wife of the sd Benjamin Gaither, relinquished her right of dower to the within mentioned land. Recorded Feb 25, 1780.
