      23 May 1744, Butler Spotswood, Elliott Benger and Robert Rose, Clerk, executors of the last will and testament of Alexander Spotswood, late of Orange County, Esqr., on behalf of John Spotswood now an infant under the age of twenty one years, to Thomas Chambers. Alexander Spotswood by his last will and testament 19 April 1740 recorded in the Court of the County of Orange did give during the minority of either of his sons John Spotswood or Robert Spotswood full power unto Butler Spotswood, Elliott Benger and Robert Rose as executors to lease any of his lands (except as therein is excepted) for term of years or for life or lives as he himself leased any lands in the Spotsylvania Tract in Orange County. Lease of 150 acres in St. Mark's Parish on the north side of the River Rapidanne being part of 40,000 acres granted to Alexander Spotswood and called the Spotsylvania. Tract. For lives of Thomas Chambers and Elizabeth his wife.
      Annual rent, 800 pounds of tobacco to be delivered in one hogshead at some convenient landing on Rappahannock River within Spotsylvania County, the first paiments to commence 25 Dec. 1747.
      Thomas Chambers shall within four years plant 300 good fruit trees whereof one third at least to be good apple trees and the same well inclose with a good fence. Thomas Chambers shall not work the premises with more than six labouringhands.

      15 March 1749 [1750]. John Shakleford of Culpeper County to Richard Nalle of same. Lease of 100 acres in the little Fork of Rappahannock River ... upon Indian Run near a path ... hickory on a hill side ... For 21 years; if Shakleford shall live longer then the lease shall continue to the end of Shakleford's life. Yearly rent, 500 pounds of tobacco after 10 May 1752. Nalle shall not keep more than four tithables besides himself in constant working on the land.
