I EDMUND JEFFRES of the Parish of Coply and County of Westmorland being sick and weak of body but of perfect mind and memory, thanks be to God for it, calling to mind the sartainty of death & knowing that all men must die do make constitute and ordain this my Last Will and Testment, revoking and disalowing all others by me maid and first I recommend my Sole to Almighty God that gave it to me hoping to receive mercy by the merits of my blessed Saviour Jesus Christ and my body to the Earth to be decently buried according to the discretion of my Executriks as for what worly goods it hath pleased Almighty God to bestow on me, I dispose of them in manner and form following;
      Item. I give and bequith unto my Loving Wife, ANN JEFFRES my Mill that I lease of JOHN GARDNER during the whole time of the Lease with all the rights and profits there unto belonging; if she lives til the time be expired and if not then the whole rite and profits to be equily devided to the good and mantenance of my Cheldred that I had by my abovesaid Wife,
      Item, I give and bequith unto my aforesaid Wife my horse and side sadell,
      Item, I give unto my Son, JEREMIAH JEFFRES, the Plantation whareon I live with all the Land belonging to it on the side of the Branch where I now live to him and his heirs for ever,
      Item, I give and bequith unto my Son, ROBERT JEFFRES all that peas of land that lies on the West side of the Branch aginning to the land of SAMUEL EARL to him and his heirs forever, And if either die without heir, then the other to have the whole not to seal nor morgage except from one to the other or to thare other Brother; And I give my Still to my aforesaid Son, JEREMIAH JEFFREY that he shall not seal it nor noe way debate his Brother, ROBERT, from many any yous of it as he shall have ocation of.
      Item. I give and bequith unto my two Sonns GEORGE JEFFRES and EDMUND JEFFRES all the Houshold goods and chattels that they in there possession and my waxing apparell and all the rest of my Estate I give to be equily devided between my Wife and Children that I have had by my aforesaid Wife, namely ELIZABETH, ANN, MARY, CATHERN, ELENDER, ALICE, JEREMIAH, ROBERT. My Will is that what I have allready given to my Dafter, ELIZABETH GARNER, shall be allowed unto her part to have so much out of my Estate as will make an equal! part with what she has allready had and my Will is that my Wife keep all my Estate in her hands during the time of her widdowhood for the better suporting and maintaining of my Children and I do make constitute and ordain my Loving Wife, ANN JEFFRES, my whole and sole Executrix of this my Last Will and Testment as Witness my hand and seal this 4th day of December 1735

Recites that Richard Holden passed it to his surviving son and sole heir John Holden who willed it to his “then” wife Mary, who was the mother of Elizabeth Jeffries.

      6/25/1733 All that Plantation whereon he is now located together with another 100 acres
      7/20/1733 metes & bounds - line of Jeremiah Garland and the late line of Wm. Butler,
      entailed to male heirs, default to Geoge Jeffries and his heirs. Witness:
      Jeremiah Garland, Samuel Earle, Richard Coleman. SEE 13-7 BELOW.

      13-2 LETTICE JEFFRIES of Cople to GEORGE ESKRIDGE, 50 acres, part of 100
      11/17/1755? acres which "fell to me and my sister Cisley Jeffries by the death of my brother
      5/25/1756 Edmond Jeffries . . . now in the possession of my father in law." Land in
      Yeocomico Neck bounded by the land of Captain Peter Rust, Stephen Bailey and
      where my Uncle George Jeffries lived.
      Court approval section referred to Sissee Jeffries, Lettice and John Fisher.
      Condition that Sissie to convey the land to Eskridge when she was 21.

      13-7 GEORGE JEFFRIES to GEORGE ESKRIDGE refers to a deed of xxx 1733
      rec 5/28/1756 land purchased by Eskridge from the heirs of Edmond Jeffries. This deed is to
      prevent "troublesome and expenses of a Law Suit" concerning the title.
      Arbitrators W. Daniel Tebbs and Robert Clark. Witness George Rust and Vincent
      Cox. Arbitrator's bond 5/25/1756.
      Found by Court that on 6/25/1733 George Jeffries conveyed to his brother
      Edmond 100 acres in Yeocomico Neck entailed to Edmond's heirs male of his
      body and their heirs [not say males only here]. Court found it vested in George
      Eskridge by his purchase from Lettice and Sissey Jeffries, daughters of Edmond
      and heirs of Edmond, their brother.

      12/?/1735 Son Jeremiah - land on the side of a branch; Son Robert - land on west side
      5/28/1736 of the branch adjacent to Samuel Earle; Sons George and Edmond get household
      goods. Also refers to daughter Elizabeth Garner. [Possible part of old Nelms
      Patent along Kinsale Creek.]

      run and down the run to a creek and around said creek westward to Rust's Mill
      thence to Samuel Rust's line.

      Robert Middleton vs. Phillip Aherne as marrying Alice the reputed wife of Robert Jefferis. The plaintiff setts forth that hee as the atturny of Robert Jefferis is capacitated to looke into and preserve the estate of Robert Jefferis from waste or imbezelment, that Phillip Aherne pretends to have intermarried with Alice and that the estate is like to be consumed, and prayes that Aherne may enter into bond that such estate as is remaineing may not bee wasted until advice may be had from Robert Jefferis out of England. The defendant' by Arthur Spicer his atturny pleades hee ought to give no security. The Court referr the matter to the next Court to be more fully debated.

It was debated at the last Court whether the defendant should give in security for the estate of Robert Jefferis held by Phillip Aherne and Alice now reputed the wife of Phillip. The Court are unanimously of judgment and doe order that Phillip Aherne doe give in good security to Robert Middleton atturny of Robert Jefferis according to the contents of his petition which is untill he can have notice and advice from Robert Jefferis in England that noe waste or imbezelment be made. The Court will take such care for the preservation of the estate as may stand with equity

      Upon the petition of Thomas Walker and Mary his wife, daughter of Robt. Jefferys and Alice his wife, it is ordered that Alice, now the reputed widdow of Phillipp Ahern, doe appeare at the next Court and enter into bond with securities for the estate of Robt. Jefferys as it appeares to this Court by inventory of the same now presented in Court and according to a former order against Phillipp Aherne.

      By the consideration of his Majestie's justices at a former Court held for this County it was ordered that Alice Ahern should give security for the estate of Robt. Jeffereys in her custody as it appeared by an inventory thereof now produced in Court, which shee haveing failed to perform, it is ordered that unless Alice doe at the next Court enter into bond, the Sheriff to take Alice into his safe custody there to remain untill she comply.
