  === 1709-1710 Richmond County, Virginia Order Book 5; Part 2 [Antient Press]; Page 93) Richmond County Court 5th of October 1709 DOUGLASS to serve SMITH WILLIAM SMITH by his Petition setting forth that ELIZABETH DOUGLASS some time in the month of August one thousand seven hundred and seven did leave at the Petitioner's House her Son, THOMAS DOUGLASS, who was then one year old, ever since wch: time the Petitioner hath kept the said THOMAS DOUGLASS in Cloathes & Victualls and hath not heard of nor seen the said ELIZABETH DOUGLASS since the time aforesaid; therefore prays that the said THOMAS DOUGLASS may be bound to him, he being ready to comply with such measures as the Court shall seem meet & convenient. The Court takeing the same into consideration, do order that the said THOMAS DOUGLASS serve the said SMITH till he shall attaine to the age of twenty one years, it appearing to the Court that the said THOMAS DOUGLASS was three years of age last March; the said SMITH assumeing in Court to learn the said THOMAS DOUGLASS to read, write and the Trade of a Shoomaker
